Still, the beat goes on . . . not one funny look as I wished everyone a Merry Christmas this year.

I noticed that, too, OUC. For the past couple of years, I've noticed more retailers saying Merry Christmas. And when I offer a Merry Christmas in response to their happy holidays, I get an approving Merry Christmas in return. I hope this trend continues.

I too liked the unicorn. Probably because it reminded me of the joke of when God was going to recognize the older gentleman that given his life to helping others. When he asked the gentleman what would he like, the gentleman replied that he would like to have a bridge from the west coast to Hawaii. God replied that it would be a very difficult task because of the amount of concrete and steel required and really was wanting him to think about something that would benefit more people. The old man thought for a while and replied that he would like for the politicians to really do the right thing for people and quit just looking for ways to take their money. God then replied, "How many lanes do you want on the bridge?"

This was my feeble mind's best recollection of the original joke but I think it makes the point.
