Steve Wynn: I'm 'more scared' about US than China

While I would not presume to speak for any of you, from my conversations in the Gulch I believe that many of us feel the same way.

We have a...

Department of Agriculture that does not grow anything.
Department of Commerce that does nothing but hinder commerce.
Department of Education that does not educate.
Department of Energy that produces no energy.
Department of Health and Human Services that does not heal.
Department of Homeland Security... need I say more.
Department of Housing and Urban Development that has not built a house.
Department of Justice that has become the Department of Injustice.
Department of Labor that does no labor.
Department of the Interior that tells us we cannot take photos of the lands that We The People have paid for.
Department of Veterans Affairs that has been an obstacle between our veterans and the medical care that they were promised.

How in the world did we get here? I have my opinions, but would like to hear yours.

    Benjamin Franklin pointed this out even before the signing of the Constitution. He lamented that the motive for power and personal gain from such a position would inherently draw from the least savory elements of society.

    We can't subsidize all those windmills without a Department of Energy.

    We can't subsidize ethanol production without a Department of Agriculture.

    We can't buy votes and redistribute wealth without a Department of Housing and Urban Development.

    We can't tell businesses how to do business without a Department of Commerce.

    We can't control all the water and land without the EPA.

    We can't bail out our union buddies and give pork projects to our Senators without the Department of Transportation.

    We can't control everyone's healthcare and scare them with disease outbreaks without the Department of Health and Human Services.

    We can't control the Western States without owning half their lands under the Department of the Interior.

    Name an opportunity for graft and corruption and just put "Department" in front. That's bureaucracy.

    These are actual transcripts (or partials) of the debates of the Constitutional Convention where the various merits of the New Jersey, Virginia, and other plans were debated. This is a great read if one reads to see that there are dangers inherent in every system.

    There's a song out there about that. Something about "I don't look good naked anymore".
    Some of them weren't worth looking at fully clothed, some were the "pretty people". What they had in common was their ability to say "yes" a lot and extreme cases of kissbuttitis.

    When you combine the "mentally ill" libtards with the possibility of ISIS members crossing the porous borders of this nation, that is scary. Then there is the homegrown or radicalized muslims already here. I've learned that I need to be very aware of my surroundings wherever I go. Not fun.

    In my lifetime I have witnessed many examples of both laws. Always fascinated me to watch the rise of folks within a company or agency without any apparent value to warrant their advancement.
    I was always the subject who pointed out the "king" had no clothes on.

    If there was a flaw in the reasoning of our Founding Fathers, it was their assumption that good people would continue to seek office. As we can see over a few regimes, that has turned out to be a flawed assumption.

    The title came from the article, which was a quote from Steve Wynn. In the context of our lives in the US, his comment makes sense to me. Over the years, we have evolved from the government fearing its citizens to the citizens fearing their government. That's broken and must be reversed.

    And yes, we do NOT have the wherewithal in this administration to actually deploy our troops into full-scale combat, should that be needed God forbid. We have effectively taken our Queen off the chessboard so to speak. That is not a capability comment, but a "will to win" comment.

    I agree with your post, but not the title. Now, here's a thought... given that we have such incompetence in our government, do you feel that if we had another 2 terms of Obama that we wouldn't be utterly crushed if China & Russia decided to press the issue and ramp up a war over 2 or 3 years, eventually turning it into full blown war after we've sold out our allies, lost key technologies, etc?

    The fact that there is almost zero freedom of the individual there? I mean, it's *going* that way here, but at least here they don't regularly imprison people who speak out against the regime.

    A simple way to understanding why socialism/communism don't work is to look up "Parkinson's Law" and "The Peter Principle." Without all of the profound philosophical ideas that takes philosophers and economists to write several hundred page books about, there are two immutable laws that arise whenever certain events occur. A bureaucracy tends to expand into the space available for it and persons will rise to the level of their incompetence. The first is illustrated by the examples above and the second by Mr. Obama.
