At 76 I will join your dino at the Bitefest! My reflexes are still good enough to catch a dropped fork in mid-air.

My Grandmother was well into her 90's when she stopped driving.
My FIL is 92 and drives around his town and plays fiddle in a band.
    Old age is a mindset.

The new cars are safety-driven. You'll be fine.

I agree with you age is a number and various people can able to drive even at 90 - I am 87 and drive everywhere and have had no tickets in 35 years!

I know 30-somethings who are horrible drivers.
In fact, when I see a world class idiot on the freeway, they are almost always (youngsters) half my age.
My father-in-law drove from New England to Florida and back every year well into his 80's.
He was sharp as a tack until he suddenly passed from a massive brain bleed.
I fully fault that on the drug Coumadin.
Mom-in-law was given the same drug and had the exact same death three years earlier.

The Medical Industrial Complex is out to kill us.
On that point, I am certain.

It sounds like you have lovely neighbors! I've read that having healthy social ties with friends and family boosts longevity, so their caring in bringing food to you may be more important than the food itself.

Dear kitty, my sister's name...My kitchen is for resale value only. I can mess up cooking grits. But I love fruit. My neighbors all feed me...seems this younger generation thinks we elders don't eat right and they bring me yummy food. I did quit eating any white bread. It's really fattening. Thanks for asking. n

Listen that little sucker I bought amazes me more and more. When I exit, a voice says 'check the two back rows in case you missed someone.' You cannot start it if a door is ajar. If some car jump out in front of you it slams on the breaks and stops but you don't sling forward when it happens. The lights come on so you will drive that way. The sidemirrors have lights in them that light up when someone is passing you so you won't enter that lane. I'm still learning what else it does. It doesn't have a gearshift it has a dial thingy. n

25n56il4, Hope you get that ticket out of your ear!

Coming home from the casino at 3 AM, i sometimes fall into "sleep driving" mode. I "wake up," and the car is 10 miles past my exit. This interstate is deserted at 3 AM.

I do not know what happens, it's like I'm still aware on a subliminal level, keeping the car pointed correctly. Like a sleepwalker does not walk into trees, there's some awareness.

Anyway I now take a nap in the back seat if I'm tired.

Waiting for the car that drives itself, but the AI will probably refuse to go to the casino...ethics...

There are far fewer deaths caused by older drivers than younger. Just more fingers pointed at the abnormality.

We had to take dad’s license at 76 because he was getting dangerous due to dementia. My son didn’t need a license because he was dangerous from the beginning, and never improved. My brother crashed every vehicle he ever owned. My aunt was still driving at 104.
Driving has less to do with your age, and more about your ability. If you’re a skilled and attentive driver, there’s no reason to stop.

There is a word in Spanish for an officer giving a ticket for 35 in a 30. It is "pendejo"!

My mother was still driving at 90. She is still doing great, but doesn't need to drive anymore. She saved the money on insurance and maintenance, and sold her car.

My vision is 20/20. I'm not allergic to anything. I only weigh 120 pounds. Good teeth. Everything is working. I usually have someone with me. Friends who don't drive.

I plan to give it to my son soon. He just sits on his butt watching TV. He is a disabled veteran but he rides a Harley 3 wheeler. n He's okay driving.

In 2015 my grandmother walked over to my folks house, only a block away, and expressed that it was time to sell the car. She was not really comfortable driving any longer. A year later she took a pretty nasty fall. So, she elected to move into an assisted care facility ..... almost two blocks from my folks. For the next year she would take her time when the weather permitted and walk to mom and dad .... this was mid 2017. In September she celebrated her 99th.

If you have to convert to an automatic transmission in the next couple of years .... I think folks will understand.

Word ear was a typo...life goes there. OOps...The girls at the License bureau said I was the best driver they ever saw. Well A. J. Foyt taught me to drive. He was my older sister's beau. nb
