Modeling a new government after the ancient Roman republic was far more appealing to our founding fathers.
I was teenaged when I realized that the architecture~~especially the columns~~of the Washington DC capitol building was influenced by the stately buildings and temples of ancient Rome.
I've been inside the Lincoln memorial (a president freedomforall later enlightened me about).
I had by then read Edith Hamilton's Mythology to appreciate how Lincoln's oversized statue matched that of the worshipped within temples Roman's Jupiter/Jove aka the the Greek Zeus. Not to mention other Olympian gods and goddesses.
