No one seems to ask the right questions. The debate should not be "college or not". It should be:

    What is your major?
What do you plan to do with it?
Do you need college for that?
If you are applying for student loans, will your degree allow you to pay it back?

100% correct. But now, there is a new dynamic, its the Gen Z, they all have been programmed that you must have a college degree to be successful. These people are starting to have input into hiring decisions. I have 27 years of experience and recently found myself unemployed, they have some super strange ideas.

Even funnier. There is a dynamic that says a divorced father must be on the hook for the kids college degree with ZERO SAY in their major, or their grades. WTF...

Back in the Day a College Degree was a substitute for an IQ Test. It simply meant you were trainable and could read/write. TBH. Because WHILE the military can use an IQ Test, business were not allowed to!

I teach what Dr. Stadler would have taught today, but I teach in a way that Galt, Danneskjold, and d'Anconia would have appreciated. Yes, I paid for this advertising. Value for value exchange, after all.

Me dino me am me went to college on GI Bill after being drafted. Me am majored in Journalism. Topped dat off taking photography course plus public relations.
Only offered two jobs me could find after graduating. One was editing. Blaugh! Me wanted to interview people, take photos and most of all to write. Not to proof read what real reporters done wrote. As you kin see. Me great when done writing.
So me started to write for dinky paper. Idea wuz to gain experience and to work me way up.
Long story short it took 5 years (of Jimmy Carter malaise) during the Seventies to get the attention of The Montgomery Advertiser because me really good writing police/crime stories. Montgomery dat is capital of Alabamy. Yep it is.
Managing editor looks me in me eye when he says and I quote, "We're having a hiring freeze right now. I PROMISE you that when it is over, you'll be working for us as our police beat reporter. Whoopie me be thinking driving back to where I'm gonna live for two more years.
Why? Me not going into the "good ole' boy" crap twixt Bama editors dat wuz holding me back, I called a young lady I knew that set type at the Advertiser. She told me dat the hiring freeze had ended and the managing editor hired some out of state dude fresh out of college for a lot less money than what I had been PROMISED. Lady added that the desk editor got mad at the managing editor over dat. So me knows just who did dat
I ALSO SAW THE WRITING ON THE WALL!
Long story shorter~~me dino joined the Alabama Department Of Corrections three years later. Enjoying a dang good retirement now.
Two sons never went to college and are making more money than I ever did. Same goes for a daughter who married a good earner. Daughter was a wildcat but she done wised up.

There is nothing that the wrong philosophy can't screw up. And that includes colleges under postmodernism. All very insightful college and a near landslide for giving college the finger.

Didn't have all the BS in my day and I used the knowledge from my degrees although they were not really necessary.
My first degree was the results of chasing a beautiful young lady and It was worth it. (AS at age 18) the second (after a stint in the Army) was in Economics and Business.
Got me into what ever door I wanted to enter.

I sometimes think we are living through the decline and fall of the united States of America but the book will not be written and published for a hundred years from today.

No joke - Ray Dalio - The fourth turning:

Ray Dalio, in his work and public speaking, often references the theory of generational cycles, particularly the concept of the "Fourth Turning" as described in the book "The Fourth Turning" by William Strauss and Neil Howe. The Fourth Turning is the final phase in a generational cycle, characterized by societal upheaval and crisis. Dalio uses this framework to understand long-term economic and geopolitical shifts, as well as to help people navigate turbulent times.

Yes a lot of us have tried to understand the reason why civilizations rise and fall. There does not seem to be a universal reason why.
Sumer, the first civilization, 5,500 B.C. to 2,000 B.C.rose and collapsed as had every civilization since.

Why cant we humans get our act together and keep it together?

It's the inhuman sociopaths who seek, gain, and retain power that are the source of disaster.
They use the 1% who are bullies to take control from peaceful people using fear as the excuse to destroy freedoms.
The rest of us get along with each other until the sociopaths discover the manipulation tool of widespread propaganda.
Rarely the peaceful rise and restore freedom to the majority.
Unfortunately the cycle starts again as peaceful people are distracted by survival for their families and friends.
Allowing the sociopaths to exist without punishment when their lying and parasitism are clear is our biggest error.
D.C. and the Deep State are the result. Centralized power is always a downfall.

Yes, of course. So, must humankind be forever doomed and limited to three choices viz. 1) Kill the bullies, 2) Submit to the bullies, or 3) Seek accommodation with the bullies?

Maybe some bright-eyed scientist not-yet-born will figure out how to identify bullies via DNA testing at birth. Then we have the moral dilemma over the right to terminate their existence before they become a threat.

            Wasn't there a movie about pre-control?

The bullies are pretty easy to see on the playground as children.
Modifying their behavior should be a priority to reduce the tools available to sociopaths.
Exposing and punishing the sociopaths controlling the bullies as adults is much more difficult for non-sociopathic people.
              imo.
If such a DNA test existed, the parasitic sociopaths in positions of power would kill millions to suppress its existence.

In the Book, I called the Global Delete, Parasitical Humanoids but in reality, they are all: The Great Unwashed . . .fits the leftest scenario: calling us a name that suits themselves better.

            However, inhuman sociopaths works too!

We do, but like everything, we go to excess, get "corrected" and move again.

Honestly, IMAGINE the process that took us from LIVING in caves, no electricity, no written language, no indoor plumbing.

To where we are now... It's AMAZING... Add in that every 5-10,000 years or so, we have some meteor crashing into us. We've had 1 million years as humans on this rock. We started out... Naked and Afraid. Living in dirt caves. Death and Disease always nearby.

We push too far, too fast. We make IGNORANT mistakes (Lead in pipes, lead in paint, lead in petrol. Poisoning ourselves. Fluoride, BPAs, etc etc etc).

Then as we grow, money and power starts to accumulate. And writing raises us. Educates us.

Yes, we will have setbacks. All REQUIRED until we are no longer afraid. When we start to replace education with wisdom and realize BOTH are critical.

I marvel because I am living through the most transformative of times of this MILLION YEARS of Human life on this planet.

Countries, Families, and Ideas... Come and Go...
Right now we see how crazy we are. But we are ONE METEOR away from living very different lives without all of this tech!

From my experience only, consulting for several private universities, colleges are sites for brainwashing young minds against individual liberty and for censorship.
Curriculum is manipulated to deliver drones who cannot think rationally and are enslaved to the banking cartel that creates the enslaving loans from nothing.
Many degrees are less than worthless.
They waste scarce resources and destroy promising young minds.
Tuition at the university that I attended has increased at FIVE TIMES the inflation rate since I attended there.

People just don't understand that a fantastic successful career with actual achievement can be accomplished by someone without a degree.

Due to a number of reasons, my son never made it to college. THANK GOODNESS! I asked him recently what his position was in his company (a huge company located down in Austin, TX we have all heard of) and if he gets another promotion, it'll be to the C-Suite (which he may or may not want.) His yearly bonus is more than most people make as regular salary. He's in his fifties now, but when he was 19, he was sent to Japan by a different company to take over management of a phone system installation that just wasn't getting done.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if he'd gone to college. The thought is too dreadful to bear!

Only if you need the degree for your planned occupation. Otherwise become a self taught person as everything is freely available online to cover whatever you are interested in.

My life experience in corporate America indicates a mediocre producer (or non-producer) with a degree will always get paid more and positioned better than a high producer without one. When belt tightening begins usually the non-credentialed are first to go regardless of skill level. It's built into the culture and makes the "Peter Principle" work. I've had the pleasure to work with credentialed people who are brilliant and worth every penny, but the dull are just as prevalent and aren't worth two cents, but survive because they got that paper.

I would say, depending on the field of study, mostly college degrees are worth it.

Edit add side story: Thomas Edison never went to college, but was awarded honorary degrees from several ivy league schools. He accepted them graciously, but before he died he said they had to do that because they couldn't stand the idea that anyone could do what I did without their pieces of paper.

My degree in the 1990s opened doors for me.
Glad I got it. I wish I had learned more about running a business.

My daughter was fully paid to go to University. And the degradation of the degrees and the process was already evident. The books are horrible (referring to capitalism as exploitation, like the old Soviets used to teach).

If I had a child today. There is NO CHANCE I'd let them go to school, unless it was fully paid like my daughter had (multiple scholarships). EVEN THEN.

What I would do. I would help them figure out what they love doing, and educate them at home the best I could + YT for the various online courses like Physics, Math, etc. Teach them the basics of being physically fit, avoiding drugs, alcohol, junk food.

Have them read across a spectrum of business books. Teach them how to set goals and use SYSTEMS to accomplish all of their goals. Systems are more important and impactful than goals, but I find having decent goals can be additionally motivating for some.

Teach them about Money vs. Currency. Contracts, and residual income.

But unless it's free, the modern university system is not worth much. You would have to pay to undo the negative programming.

Even my daughter was bathed with this crap, knowing our beliefs were quite different... It has an effect to be told, constantly, that "Liberal Views" are kinder/gentler. Without explaining that "Softness today creates hardships tomorrow". As she matured more after school, the wheels got clicking better again...
