Thoughts on the threats of AI

While drinking my first cup of coffee this morning, I had an epiphany. I have always stated that AI is simply a tool, any tool can be misused. I have also said that its not the threat of AI we should be worried about but the actions of malice performed by malevolent actors with tools like AI. I now must recant this threat as credible and replace it with the true threat upon all of us by AI:
We need to be concerned by the effects of AI in the hands of truly stupid people not understanding the ramifications of their actions.
This hit me like Levy Shoemaker hitting Jupiter, its not intentional, its going to be on accident. Someone will do something with AI that will be so great, it will have unintended consequences in other industries, casing great damage to livelihoods and wealth. Ultimately, the automation will remove our reason to endeavor, once we stop pushing forward, we will devour ourselves. I think its is as simple as this, we, as a people, are too stupid for great intelligence.
