Signing up for Selective Service has been mandatory for many years.

Making it automatic changes nothing, in my mind.

even so, hand to hand fighting is SO inefficient compared with even aerial bombing, and destruction with missiles is even more efficient and requires no pilots at all...

If they're going to draft men, they should draft women, too.
Feminists wanted equality; let them enjoy the full measure of it.
....I can hear the screeching from here....

This is from Snopes (yes, I know, and I agree with you on Snopes), but it appears to agree with the other sources I am reading:

Is This Bill Actually Going To Become A Law?
A brief Civics 101 refresher: In order for a bill to become a law, the majority of members in both the House of Representatives and the Senate must vote "yea" on the proposed legislation, and then the president must sign ii. So far, in the case of H.R. 8070, though one of those things had happened, it wasn't likely to go much further.

The version of the bill passed by the Republican-controlled House was chock-full of amendments likely to stop it from passing the Democrat-controlled Senate, including bans on the money being used to provide abortion and gender-affirming care through the military's healthcare system, rollbacks on climate change protections and dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

    ======================================

Of course that doesn't mean it won't eventually pass as part of some other bill, but my question is: OK, what are they trying to distract us from NOW, because this is not going to happen at this time.

Also, I definitely agree with John RandALL, who said at least 1/3 of the population of kids that age will not be fit for service....

how many men does it take to push the "fire" button on a drone these days. I think the day of the infantry and hand to hand fighting is long past.

I was of draft age during the Vietnam war. Fortunately my A-1 status went away when they stopped the war, but I wasn't going to go over there and fight for the statists.

I feel sorry for the young people today getting drafted into some foreign war fought for the benefit of the politicians who enjoy dinner at the french laundry....

god help some foreign soldiers that show up on my street looking to take over, though.

    Why wouldn't they?
It's against men and men don't matter except as soldiers who will be human sacrifices to maintain Deep State/bankster power.
Send all those masculine men (who might stand against tyranny) off to die in another bankster war.

During 1969 I was "not yet a Marine or a civilian~~just puke!" being trained on Parris Island.
"Want to leave?" a drill instructor told us. "Just tell me you're a homo and you're going home."
Me dino don't think telling a D.I. that will work out like that anymore.
Anyway, the first half of that movie, "Full Metal Jacket," with an actual retire USMC drill instructor playing the USMC drill instructor was dead on accurate.
Not anymore I'm afraid. Saw on TV either during the late Seventies or the late Eighties that Marine drill instructors are telling recruits they aren't going to punch them anymore.
That was but a baby step of softening up Marine training for actual combat compared to the D.E.I. BS that must be going on now.

Well, I would too, but I don't understand the big fuss over this. The Senate will NEVER let this pass. It's already a non-starter, from what I am reading.

    Am I missing something?

At this point the queers will be the COs that the draftees will have to answer to. That's going to go well...

I already served 20 years in the Air Force, back in the pre-woke days, thankfully. If they initiate a draft today, i predict 1/3 of the draftees could not meet military fitness standards.

They never meant that. All those people who say America is a "patriarchy"...They never understood the numbers anyway. Now, they'll all send a bunch of America's young men into war while griping about how good men have it.

    Think about this carefully.

7 ‘‘SEC. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this
8 title, every male citizen of the United States, and every
9 other male person residing in the United States
    , between
10 the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, shall be automatically
11 registered under this Act by the Director of the Selective
    12 Service System.
13 ‘‘(2) This section shall not apply to any alien lawfully
14 admitted to the United States as a nonimmigrant under
15 section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act
16 (8 U.S.C. 1101) for so long as he continues to maintain
    17 a lawful nonimmigrant status
    in the United States.

Can't ask if one is legal immigrant or not. Can ask if one is registered.
