Author David Gordon cites von Mises, Lincoln analyst Graham to show Lincoln, opposing secession of states, abrogated most fundamental of constitutional guarantees: namely, “consent of the governed”

Civil War might have been averted to allow slavery to become economically unsustainable, thus averting artificial, contrived federal legal decrees of slavery dissolution. Capitalism (profit motive leading to invention and industrialization) would have been more effective than Union guns, military draft, and legal-tender greenbacks in abolishing slavery.

And “union” might have been again consolidated if economic interests, cultural similarities had so warranted. In any event, warfare and consequent destruction might have been averted to form two compatible, harmonious federations while capitalism was allowed to overcome differences, destroy anachronisms.

On yesterday’s (President Day’s) Clay Travis & Buck Sexton radio show (AM radio show that replaced Rush Limbaugh’s show after his death several years ago), Lincoln emerged as a perennial favorite among many of the “conservative” listeners that phoned in.

Sexton at 20 minutes into the 2nd hr transcript (https://omny.fm/shows/the-clay-travis...) announces, “I’ve got Abraham Lincoln as the best president in American political history.” Reading Gordon’s essay (linked in the lead to this thread) might give Sexton reason for some second thoughts.
