This story is not new. Glenn and Rush have been talking about Ezekiel Emanuel's "complete lives system" for several years.

I read parts of Mr. Emanuel's article, and I strongly agree with him and his right to die whenever he wants to.

I see this issue a lot with my wife's line of work, which focuses on end-of-life issues. I strongly support people's right to choose when they die and what measures are taken at the end of their lives.

In _This Perfect Day_, and _Brave New World_, the cutoff was 60. So, apparently, our planners are being generous. However, this particular complaint seems unfounded. "The controversy surrounding Emanuel is due to claims by Betsy McCaughey and Sarah Palin accusing Emanuel of supporting euthanasia. Emanuel has opposed euthanasia.[25] These claims have been used by Republicans opposing health care reform." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezekiel_Ema...

Emanuel seems well aware of the ethical dilemmas in keeping people alive without quality of life. He is nonetheless opposed to euthanasia.

"Emanuel said the "death panel" idea is "an outright lie, a complete fabrication. And the paradox, the hypocrisy, the contradiction is that many of the people who are attacking me now supported living wills and consultations with doctors about end-of-life care, before they became against it for political reasons." "I worked pretty hard and against the odds to improve end-of-life care. And so to have that record and that work completely perverted—it's pretty shocking."
