This recently was published by The Liberty Fund. It is shortened a bit for length requirements. The original, in which Buffon indicts the American Indian on the grounds of size and amor, as it indicts other American species, is available on request.

In the spirit of the article: He got it wrong, but not entirely. The real problem was the millions of buffalo, elk, and caribou pooping and farting all over North America and ruining the environment. The natives did NOTHING to alleviate this disaster. Fortunately, along came the white man who culled the great herds and saved the planet. LOL

" American Indian from becoming civilized"

    define "civilized"

    let's see
the American Indian waged wars, took slaves, took land

the Europeans of the time waged wars, took slaves, took land

    both seemed equally "civilized"

The Earth was here, BILLIONS of years before us...
It will be here BILLIONS of years AFTER US...

I envision a comic where God asks the Earth:
Aren't you concerned about the damage those humans are doing?

And the Earth Responds: No! I encourage them for the Entertainment...

And God Replies: That's why I Created them! I have 8 billion channels of reality TV where they are all the cause and solution to their own overstated problems. You would think it gets boring, but they are REALLY inventive at blaming others... Especially the ones they call Democrats!

The referenced article seems poorly edited. "... accounts often climax with the story of Jefferson’s trip to Paris in the 1880s as American minister."
