I hear what you are saying (writing) and understand the necessity to be prepared. A few more things to consider in context of SHTF:
Living in a smaller community can be a good thing (Sierra Vista, Arizona has a population of 45k).
Gangs of them, if they do roam, will have strength in numbers; however, they are a highly dynamic bunch and can turn on each other in a heartbeat due to their lack of propriety / loyalty.
Desperate people do desperate things -- however, they are usually not very smart when acting in desperation. Consider a shot fired in desperation when compared to that of an individual property owner that actually places value on their own life, that of their family and has a solid concept of the future.
There are counter "gangs" -- or rather, groups of individuals that do own property and respect private property. An example -- I was at a good friend's home for his birthday -- there were 25 others at the shindig - each of the individuals, from age 7 to 70+ owned one or more firearms and had a level of proficiency - the 7 year old showed me a video where he was out on the range knocking the gongs from 400 yards. Everyone at that shindig owned property and had a high level of self-worth. If we get some SHTF rolling our way, we have some plans to preserve our way of life.
* The SHTF scenarios would likely take place over an extended time and roll over geographic areas -- so the property owners will get a whiff of trouble before it happens and have some time to get ready.
Long story short -- I am on the same page in terms of being aware during the coming chaos... and just as important -- to keep my alliances with like-minded individuals on the front burner.

For every 1,000 toilets my dad installed, maybe a handful opted for a color. And black was a common collar for fancy (read expensive) bathrooms.
White is cheap and in stock.

I like watching short videos of history on YouTube. Very often I'll start up the YouTube app on my Apple TV to catch a few. I'm noticing lately a plethora of videos "blackwashing" history and I can only take the first few minutes of many of these because they are so obviously BS to anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together. However, I'm sure there must be many out there that eat this crap right up. For example, did you know black Africans sailed out of Africa thousands of years ago to show the Chinese and Japanese how to work metal and be civilized? According to these videos the great Chinese and Japanese civilizations were all started by black Africans. So it's not just Hollywood blackwashing history as there are some very "serious" and "scholarly" folks out there blackwashing all history.

I'm glad that video was less than a minute long because I can only take the droning of imbeciles in very small doses. To the voice of Darth Vader, "The stupid is strong in this one."
