This is a good description of what happened and the hypocrisy. That said, I must disclose that I have had a crush on Kellyanne Conway for some time - so I'm biased. She can sit on my couch anytime she wants.

                    Pleasant beach on Pacific with daily temp range of Low 74 to Hi 81 this week. (Near equator so it's summer 365 days a year.) They have a new (35 year old) president, too. Apartment rents long term 500 to 700 within a few blocks of the beach. Inexpensive tasty restaurant food- Just had pulled pork sandwich with spicy sauce for $5 for lunch. Dinner last night was delicious broiled fresh fish, fries, salad, chips/salsa and soft drink for $10. Transportation costs are lower here- Unleaded $2.40 Diesel $1.75 w/ no car insurance mandated. Very friendly local people and quite a few expats from US and Canada. (Downside is 'don't drink the water' and most locals only speak Spanish.) My 1 br condo with ocean view (about 2 blocks to beach) is about $50/night, and this is the busy season. I did sunburn my feet- first time wearing sandals in a few years. ;^)
                    I also went to the mountains last week (Cuenca) at about 8000 ft elevation. Too cool for my tastes (Hi 73 Low 55 and foggy/rainy every day.) But Cuenca is a very attractive city of ~300k population if you like that climate. Its a UNESCO city "protected" from developments in the city center. Lots of attractive older architecture.

                      Sounds great. But remember, if you are to survive what's coming, that area will be where the south pole is now. When the time comes, you'll have to travel north as far as you can get.

                      I am thinking of posting some globe shots, (not the best) showing where the continents will be for the next 12K years. So for those that care or have young children will have an idea of where they need to be to be comfortable and geologically safe.

                      In the meme tyme, live it up and enjoy.

    I have to say NBC did win the award for the MOST MISLEADING HEADLINE of 2023. It was a neck and neck race with CNN. But, NBC pulled ahead by saying the Sex Tape was “alleged”. It was already going viral and was posted by the creators on Only Fans. So it was objective truth. No allegations required.

    What place do drug dealers have down there, ffa? It sounds like paradise. Is there a crime wave going on? What kind of immigration laws do they enforce? I will be checking out what I can, but any info is helpful.

      I am learning as I go, but my current understanding is that Columbia has been making it more difficult for drug traffickers to transport drugs there and they have started to use ports (and some fishing villages) in Ecuador instead. That has caused some increased confrontations between drug traffickers in Ecuador which shares a border with Columbia. The new president has pledged to fight this and I think has contacted authorities in the US to do so. Whether that is good or bad remains to be seen.
      imo, there is no 'paradise' on earth. There are always trade-offs and every country/city I have ever been has crime in some places that are obvious places to avoid. One tries not to be in the wrong places at the wrong times.
      btw, the new president is from the coast and is probably serious about cracking (pun intended) down on drug traffickers there.
      btw, it takes a permit to own a firearm in Ecuador - unless you are a criminal, of course.
