Brand New Car. Weak Battery. Just Trickle-Charge, Right? Nope. Call a Tow Truck and Wait Several Days For Dealer Repairs. Welcome to Government Mandated Cars.

Excerpt: "This is an update – a final report – about the issue I experienced with a new car (2024 Dodge Hornet) I was test driving last week. It should have been a small issue, easily dealt with. Just a dead battery. And not even that, actually. The battery in this car was merely a little weak. For whatever reason (and we’ll get into that shortly) its charge was less than the 12 volts most modern cars won’t start without. More about this, here. Anyhow, the fix – or so I thought – was to charge up the battery or replace it. As it turns out, that’s a whole ‘nother issue. The car had to be flat-bedded to the dealer to deal with it. According to the service advisor at the dealership – which I visited to try to get what I assumed was the secret series of tapping the “panic” or “lock/unlock” buttons on the key fob – or some similar process necessary to get the car’s computer to recognize the battery, and to recognize I wasn’t trying to steal the car. This is necessary because once the car’s computer registers a voltage fluctuation it can (and did) trigger a cascading series of electronic apoplexy that renders the car undriveable. It is an issue that cannot be dealt with by the owner or even by roadside assistance (we tried that, too). The vehicle must be taken – that is, hauled – to a dealer, where the Big Time Cray-type supercomputer equipment that is the only way to reboot the computer is on hand. And that is where the little Dodge is. It is where it will sit, too, for at least several days – because the dealer is back-up with other work that’s ahead in the queue. You cannot – as the saying goes – make this shit up." ---------------------------------------------- D.C. is at fault for this s%^t. NIFO. The world would be a better place without it.

When statists get in charge, they are likely to tell you a lot of lies "for your own good", and not to want to admit it when reality shows them to be false.
(Kind of similar to people who ram public education down your throat and tell you that you need it so much to enable you to get a ["good"] job, or survive, etc., and then don't want to admit it when you get stuck with the results.

I've got a 2005 Scion. Small battery, good gas mileage, 175K miles. Just keep changing the oil on schedule.

The one thing I remember from that movie with HAL, is when IT decided not to open the pod bay doors.... Would happen with electric cars IF you got on some list formulated by government for saying something or doing something against the left

I'd love to get back to the times when things like electric locks on the door were an option. We have so many sensors and other nonsense constantly draining charge from the battery it's no wonder they don't last more than a year on modern cars. I long for the days when auto manufacturers simply focused on putting out a more performant engine...

Once HAL gets control.....we can never turn it off. AI wont let us. also look at what letters in the alphabet follow the letters HAL.

    Hey- it works on Subaru!

The button is almost flush with the surround, but I pushed in a piece of card on the edge to hold it the pushed-in position. I may be able to find something neater. It is not my car, else my usual style of work would be to put in a self-tapping screw in that position. The cardboard piece has held for a day so far.

    Thanks for that.

Old cars, in decent shape, are only going to increase in value.
If you have an older car that you like, follow the "severe service" maintenance schedule.
I wish I never sold my 2004 Mini Cooper S with the supercharger. What a sweet ride. It needed a bunch of gaskets changed and I didn't want to incur the cost. Stupid stupid stupid. No dents no rust and meticulously maintained. What was I thinking?

This ASS feature showed up after I bought my last vehicle in 2014. I hate it. So I won't buy another vehicle if I can afford it.

The complexity, like Scotty Says, just makes the plumbing easier to plug up...

epress and hold the button ONCE while you jam something in to keep the button from being released. Leave the button depressed this way from then on, ignition off or on. I did this to my KIA and Hyundai cars, and it works perfectly to disable the stupid auto stop start SHIT system

This hack works with KIA and HYundai cars for me, at least. Depress and hold the Auto Stop Start button while you jam something into the crack between the button and the bezel to keep the button from releasing. AutoStop Start will never happen again so long as the button is kept depressed this way. You will never have to actually depress the button manually again, as the computer detects the button is already depressed even though the ignition is OFF.

I hate the whole idea of auto stop start, and REFUSE to use the feature.

Not likely. The computer HAL controls the entire car now. If it doesn't want you to operate the car (or if the government wants you stationary), you just sit there.

As people (stupidly) buy more EV's to make Biden and the cancel culture people happy, this might be a good career path to follow.

I read a report of someone who bought a tesla, and it wouldn't do anything, not even open the door or hood. The problem turned out to be a small 12v battery which is charged through an on board charger from the main high voltage battery. Of course the problem was that the on board charger failed, and there was apparently no way to open the hood (electrical release) to manually charge the small battery. In the end there was some sort of code which WAS able to charge the 12 v battery, but you arent going to find that if straned on a lonely road at night. Another SHIT design.

old cars will go up in value because of this simple fact- when the damn thing wont start, its actually possible to get it going without the dealer

    I have a 1972 GMC 1500 shortbed pickup I can sell.
No electronics, but poor gas mileage.
I think the future of personal mobility lies with keeping our old cars running.

This sounds a LOT more like Fiat electrics getting into what was previously a reliable brand.

"climutt change" or any of the other names they use...

ARE NOT LISTED IN THE ENUMERATED POWERS IN THE CONSTITUTION!!
As such, NO GOVERNMENT has any power to screw up PRIVATE ENTERPRISE FOR PURELY POLITICAL REASONS.

And then the car gets an update that resets the rubbish on again. Maybe an extra $50 to turn off all updates forever (and never take the car to a dealer.)
I might have a new career as vehicle hacker.
