One of my children [then in high school] was having issues with stress and mild depression. We took her to a [health care provider] recommended shrink, hoping they would teach her some behavioral habits and coping skills. To my great disappointment and considerable anger, their response was "here, take a pill".
My opinion of the psychiatric profession took a nosedive, and has not recovered.
I have seen people I know on SSRIs completely loose their f'n minds. I'll spare you the details but it was nightmarish to see. One was my wife's best friend. That was very sad.
