Flag at half staff

Today on the Fourth of July the governor of the state of Connecticut, Ned Lamont ordered all flags at half staff to honor the former governor Lowell Weicker who recently died. I’m disgusted by this and have written him an email to tell him. Thoughts Gulch?

Seems anymore that the flags are always at half staff. It has become meaningless.

Half-staff is for mourning and acknowledging a rare individual, not just a dead politician or public figure. Our conservative governor is always ordering flags ar half staff, as do some liberal mayors...denigrating the flag that flies only because of lost blood and treasure simply disgusts me.

He would definitely be an improvement, especially due to the fact that he could become a chicken dinner at some point, so therefore he would have intrinsic value....unlike many of our lawmakers!

That's a smart move. It does seem to be taking a long time. But, we are the only ones who can do it. There is so much to fix.

I really feel considering how things are going, we should see our flag flying upside down. Got It?

Unfortunately based on the current crop of politicians that does seem to be the way they are judged..

We'll put your suggestion on the list of "things to do when we reorganize our Republic."

This old allosaur is 76 million years old.
OK, just 76. But it can feel like 76 million form time to time.

Do believe that senator is a Warner Brothers cartoon character I haven't seen for decade.
Made me laugh, though. Thanks, I needed that.

As a standard practice, there is (in my mind) no reason whatsoever to lower the US flag to half staff on the singularly most important flag day of the year: Independence Day.

The governor has shown that his loyalty is not to the nation, but to a political party. Enough said.

We get that here in NC as well....but when they build a building or new bridge etc, by and large it is named the "Senator Foghorn Leghorn memorial palace of Government"

Here in Alabama I've noticed several stretches of asphalt named after police officers.
Why? They were killed while carrying out their duty,

Ever notice that bridges and highways are often named for the politicians that got the funding for them approved. That politician didn't do anything other than his job....spending the citizens money. They should not be allowed to name things after politicians, only after war heroes etc, IE: people that did something above and beyond. Not some featherbedding pudknocker who spent a "public service" career enriching himself.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe only the President of the United States can order the flags lowered. No governor of any state has the authority to do so. Not only that but when I was a child I can remember learning that the flag was only lowered for the death of a President or a high ranking member of the military. Now we lower it for the f ing queen of England and Ukraine and whatever whim anyone wants. Disgraceful. Any way Happy Birthday USA. From those who still care.

. . .and that is how we'll chose to view the half staff here in connecticut. I am very ashamed of this state.
