Not going to even bother reading the article.
I just want to ask... abuse... by whom?

Maybe they wouldn't be suffering the abuse if they were at hospitals for the criminally insane (only because they don't have hospitals for insane criminals, to my knowledge).

Yes. If it's true it needs to stop not only because it makes us barbarians, but because some of these people are not in for life or until old age. They're getting training in being worse criminals.

I hope it's false.

My wife worked for the federal prisons long ago. Someone there pointed out that no where in the mission statement does it say anything about rehabilitation. In the case of prisoners who will be released eventually, we're causing crimes. If they're not going to rehabilitate, they need to keep them for life.

    They should put them in jail until they're too old or weak to commit crimes then. I can't see releasing them knowing they're likely to offend again.

The most disturbing part for me is that this is in California. I have always thought of that state being more accepting of the Gay and Transgender lifestyle. If this proves to be true each state should institute a review of how these prisoners are treated.

    This is a tough case. If the prisoner comes forward they will face more abuse. If they don't come forward the prison may use that as an excuse not to investigate. I hope someone steps forward and does the right thing.
