Just another great American professional actor: remembering the near 5-decade career of Douglas Fowley, notable, like many great actors of the previous century, for distinctive locution

Although Fowley appeared with numerous better-known actors and actresses over his 49-year career starting in 1933, he is probably best remembered for his part as ‘Doc’ John Holliday, along with Hugh O’Brian, in “Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp,” B&W episodic TV western that ran for five seasons starting in the late ‘50s.

Glad to see someone else is at least aware of his acting. Like you, perhaps, I first became aware of his acting and his crisp locution in the Wyatt Earp series. His performance elevates that series to be my favorite of all the old westerns on TV--and I'm probably aware of at least most of them.

I decided to post this after coming across a performance of Fowley's in "Scared to Death," starring Bela Lugosi--another actor famed for a specific locution. I found a DVD of "Scared to Death" at a bargain sale at a local pawn shop, and bought it not aware that Fowley would appear in it. Actually, the movie didn't have a lot going for it--but one of the bright spots was Fowley playing a newspaper reporter who brings his girlfriend to the site of a likely crime in progress, thinking he'll get a "scoop."

BTW, I'll be on the lookout for "Battle Ground" at the next pawn shop sale.

i love to see other old time actors in TV shows

right now, we watch Perry Mason on FETV
its better than the new crap TV shows

i know they are actors, paid to fool us as to who they are pretending to be

but the old shows have a certain respect for we the viewers lacking today

almost all the old time actors liked the United States

Yes, and many of them served overseas, including Fowley, who served on an aircraft carrier when an explosion wounded him and knocked out some of his teeth. You can see a list of his film credits at wikipedia; note that there are two long columns, not just one.

I remember Doc Holliday, and Wyatt Earp is currently running on our Dish Channel, along with Perry Mason, Emergency, and a number of other 50's and 60's shows. Better to watch than most everything else on tv.
