Use Clean Energy Charging on your iPhone

Apparently with the release of IOS 16.1 a setting has been added to optimize your battery charging. It adds a "Clean Energy Charging" setting. This setting is actually an inhibitor to prevent your phone from charging day or night unless certain conditions by the local electrical grid. Example, if Apple determines that your local grid is utilizing enough solar energy you Iphone may not charge.

If this silent presumption is as unacceptable to you as it is to me, this can be disabled: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213...

Linux has the Pine and Pine 64 phones. What appealed to me was a series of dip switches on the back where you could disable among other things GPS and the camera. Unfortunately the phones are dated when you buy it and it could take weeks or months for the next batch to be made. I'm seriously thinking of downloading a linux phone distro and installing it only not too old retired andriod (Once I get a battery).

Frankly, I wish we still had pagers. And I also wish far less people used the web.

I agree that both are poisonous; yet, necessary evils. As I have a personal grudge against Apple I choose Android. Considered a Microsoft based phone years back but heck they are just as bad if not worse.

I was unaware of Linux based phones. I will look into that and consider it for my next one in a year or so.

Well you have to pick you poison still. Google, which owns android, is by far much worse than apple. I generally have no use for macs, but android ticked me off so I picked up an iPhone.

Waiting on a Linux phone, yes they do make them, but they are generally older model phones and are never available promptly.

An excellent post! And of course a green pickup counts...makes as much sense as most of the nonsense coming from that direction....

I use "clean energy" (solar), when I'm operating remotely on my Ham radio.

Problem is, I burn 4 gallons of gas to get to and from the site...

My pickup is green...does THAT count?

Just got a new Samsung S23 Ultra. Not because it's the latest thing but because my S8 was really, really old and was no longer updating the OS. I haven't seen anything like that on my Ultra, and I've pretty much been through the entire settings looking for junk like that.

As I will never use Apple products, I am going to ask if anyone knows of a similar setting on Android, and if so how to disable it.

It's getting to the point you can't buy anything without some kind of woke string attached.

Thanks, AJA. Typical woke rubbish from silicon valley anti-competitive brainwashing.
Thanks to Apple for transferring some energy to my tube audio gear.

Turned it off on my devices. I would hate to be on a trip somewhere and lose my phone, which I paid for, because some loser self righteous climate freak at Apple decided I wasn't worthy of a recharge.
