Thoughts About the Acadamy Awards

I love movies, so I love the Academy Awards. But I detested having to see a reminder of politics at the end of the show. Out of all of the films, I feel Atlas Shrugged part II was the boldest attempt of 2012. Some of the independent films and foreign film categories would have lost to Atlas if everything was really about film quality. But it's not.

Sooo true non mooch. One of the only things that makes me "feel" good is a total disregard for people who act on emotion haha. I have been know to just turn and walk away from conversations when people are mid sentence when it is emotional dribble.

Agreed. Appearances be damned. What matters is what you "do" not what you feel. I always purpose to surround myself with doers. Being self employed I have a bit more say in who I interact with, which is nice. But unfortunately there are Trolls everywhere...look out!

So do I....that's why I said it oh so sarcastically..."feeeeeels so gooooood"... feelings schmeelings! It's all self importance and hypocracy to the Nth. I think they are sad, shallow beings who's existence revolves around doing things for appearance's sake.

I quite agree with your last sentence, OA. I enjoy stepping out of my world for a few hours to watch a good film. What I don't care for is the political grandstanding to make themselves feel good, or to appeal to the low info voters so ticket sales remain brisk.

Feel good? What the F*** do feelings have to do with it? ;) Seriously though. If you feel good by passively giving away your hard earned money to the worst financial team on record (BO and the US gov) so they can squander it on their so called "good intentions" and social experiements, then what does that say for your IQ? Is your brain even functioning? I think a lot of it is PR. They want to act important and "feel" like they are giving back, but inside they dont really care about helping as they are too self involved (I know this does not apply to every single person, but I am making a general comment).

Btw, I hate the word "feeling". I hate even typing it. I "feel" dirty using it so much in one post. Like maybe I should disinfect my computer and go take a shower in bleach or something alone those lines haha

Because they think it somehow makes them important....and it feeeeels so goooood. (Not to mention all that attention they receive.) It's very pathetic in a way.

I love movies, but refuse to watch the Academy Awards. The wrong people and films win for the most part, and as you state some never leave their sheltered life political views out of it. Too many exhibit a hubris and pomposity while bashing the capitalism that makes their livelihood possible.

I agree. I think they drink the kool aid to stay in work, and that is sad. To make a film like AS was a real uphill battle that was needlessly difficult. But Ayn Rand covered the issue years ago as it was moving far to the political left as an industry.

I like films as much as the next guy, maybe even more. But the awards? Please. The people in Hollywood decline every year. Liberal socialist agenda. What's ironic if you have spent time there is that the work ethic is incredibly high. It is tremendously difficult to get a film made, just ask AS staff and producers. It's weird to me that talented people with a great work ethic are drinking the kool aide. Why work so hard to promote BO, liberal/socialist agenda and give more than half away in taxes?
