Observations of AS3 movie
Saw the late show last night, so theatre was nearly empty. Earlier show seemed to have more people.
The good: actors played their parts well, particularly Dagny. The movie was true to the book, such as any movie can be, and Ms. Rand's philosophy was adhered to. The not so good: Cheryl Taggart's death was badly mishandled. I'd have liked to see Hank Rearden recruited by Francisco on the night of the Rearden Steel attack. And while I understand they concentrated on the Dagny-John Galt relationship, I thought the movie was too "soft" vis-a-vis the destruction of the World.
Overall, good effort, though AS2 was a bit better, and I recommend seeing the movie.
Last but not least, to the critics that thought it was preachy.... well, it *IS* a movie and book about a philosophy, and I thought the movie brought those points home very, very well. Thanks to the producers for bringing Galt to the Big Screen!

So we can say that this or that was not what we would have done; and, indeed, we did not. My wife and I saw it this evening and discussed it over dinner at a restaurant. If you dig into the trailers and the pre-release materials, you will see that, as in the song "Show Business", someone's best scenes are left on the cutting room floor. With computer graphics technology and no shortage of spare time you can make your own version starring Barbara Stanwyck and Ron Ely and with Albert Einstein as Robert Stadler. Short of that, we have this. I was not disappointed. I was not dismayed. I do not disapprove. All in all it was a very nice production of a difficult work.
