Honest to Ayn, I wish my fellow inhabitants of the Gulch had been given the opportunity to hear the Chief Project Officer from the new Bridgestone tire plant near Aiken, SC, speak this past weekend. No nonsense. Warm, but smart and "tell-it-like-it-is" business-like. A speech that John Galt himself might have given. If you will bear with me, I will mention a few key points. (1) Why SC? Geography played a role with a nearby port, but also a friendly business climate. (2) Emphasis on a skilled workforce that not only is willing to do physical labor, but also has the desire to be part of a team. Bridgestone conducted a nationwide search to staff the new plant. Only 2% of applicants made the final cut, with 39% of hires coming from SC. In other words, they hired producers not moochers. And (3) Emphasis on "leadership." Career paths for workers at all levels who have the desire to move up to find it possible. Performance will be rewarded. Now, contrast this with our federal government. I think you get the picture.
