The verdict: we've pulled the facebook / twitter login option. After all of the intense discussion, there was one argument that really struck a cord with us. It was presented in different ways by a couple of members but here's the basic idea...
This is the Gulch. If you don't know why you're here, enough to know why you WANT to create a Gulch account, you're probably in the wrong place. Can you imagine someone showing up here, having just finished reading the book, saying to themselves,"Oh maannnn... I need to create an account!? I wish I could just sign up with my facebook account. I guess I'll just leave."
No? Me neither.
Thanks to all of you who joined in the discussion. It was a heated battle ultimately fought to protect the integrity of an idea. And, we're glad to report, the idea won.
