He deserved an Emmy, not a suspension. :) The faculty was aware of the fact that they were having this dress up day right??? If not, the Drama teacher dropped the ball. His only mistake was in staying in character when it mattered... Poor decision... suspension is over the top. khalling suggested a better alternative and a learning experience to boot. I think the Drama teacher should have to match the 1000 words... :) Sounds like too many drama queens to me...

  Hey O.A.. He probably should have broke character sooner but he is just a senior in high school. I give him props for having the guts to see it thru. Hi finally gave up when the cops showed up. At least he wasn't arrested.

why suspension? I think the decision was made in the heat of anger. I would have given him an assignment something like give me 1000 words on the homeless situation in our city and what private solutions are available to mitigate it.
or write a short story about the character you were going to portray today in school.
I do think it was a disruptive assignment-maybe the teacher should be on unpaid leave for two days

  I like the unpaid part but I would make the teacher work those 2 days so we don't have to pay a sub. It would be better if the school had everyone work on this. Ask them why everyone did what they did and do you agree with it? I guess with Common Core they don't have that option.

  I can see where the student was conflicted. He was told to stay in character. The school has to be careful so I understand their actions. The only problem I have is the suspension. The school gave him the assignment. Why did they have to suspend him for doing it better than everyone else?

      I first heard this story on the radio. They thought the suspension was more for making the school administrators look like idiots.
