This actually brings out a larger problem which I think has affected our society as a whole. Individuals seem to be more and more short sighted. In a civilized society this just seems to cause problems. Very rarely do you hear anyone talking about how their decisions will affect them and others around them long term. The only organisms I feel have an excuse to act this way are animals and babies, not grown up humans.
