Understanding Alaska

So people wonder how someone like Lisa Murkowski keeps winning re-election and how someone like Sarah Palin loses. I have a buddy who teaches school in Alaska 9 months out of the year in a podunk village where - yes - there are days during the school year he doesn't see the sun at all. I asked him how Alaskans could repeatedly vote for someone like Murkowski and the answer shocked me, but explained a lot.

The problem is that most Alaskan natives - especially the tribal natives - are a complete social disaster and are only alive because of their dependence on government handouts. So if you want to get elected in Alaska, you have to promise government handouts will continue.

Alaska's industry is red: fishing, mining, tourism, energy. But its people are blue.

Indigenous people are like the Hawaiians.

Wherever the majority of people are not of European heritage and conservative
(work ethic and reward based on merit) mindset, teat sucking socialism prevails
    and quality of life declines.
Either we secede or revolt, or we will never again enjoy freedom.

You know......Ayn was a genius. You really can’t take on the nanny state directly. You have to take out it’s support system. Just stop supporting it with your efforts. Will that suck? YES!
But, it sucks a hell of a lot less than full blown Civil War.
I think Ayn knew that was true.
