We already know about this in the Gulch:

"When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed." - Ayn Rand (in "Atlas Shrugged")

Yeah, I can see a kid's lemonade stand being shut down as an illustration of this Randian principle.

But what I like is public outcry showing people feel strongly kids can spread their wings, experience a degree of economic freedom, overcome inertia and get rewarded accordingly.

The public outcry proves that learning to sell things for personal profit remains an accepted cultural element of American childhood--a capitalist survival skill that Americans in general want children to develop.

The outcry and the fact that cops and "woke" public guardians got shut down is proof that there's still some hope for the nation. .

Send her a copy of Atlas Shrugged, but tell her she mustn't read it until she is 15 and thinking that maybe socialism is a good idea.

Yes, mixed premises can live in any of us. One of my best helpers is a 20-year-old who comes from a socialist family and who claims to be working to help implement social justice. But she is very good at working with animals and children. She can direct the children to be safe around horses without causing confrontation.

Check those premises! Check those premises!

fascism is allowing people to have their own businesses, but ONLY if they are controlled by the government. We in this country are primarily run under the fascist system, whether we like it or not.
In Las Vegas you are not allowed to open ANY business UNTIL its permit is approved, and if you want to do business that is not listed as an "approved businesses" , you simply cannot operate here.

If that isnt fascism, I dont know what is.

Doesn't fascism require the government to actually direct what is produced rather than just licensing businesses? Next step is to remove ownership and have communism. I wouldn't be surprised to wake up some morning and find the the people rejoicing at their new people's republic.

good point, but in fact by only licensing certain business licenses, they are really doing the same thing. Basically they want us to fund the businesses THEY want to see and then they tell you how to run them, and close you down if you are doing something they dont want

Socialism, with Fascism or Communism, has no market to freely determine prices. There are only government directives dictating what and how much is to be produced, how distributed, and how priced. The great Democracy of the free Market does not exist in Socialism. In order to live, black markets begin with extreme punishments to those caught disobeying government production schedules and pricing. All forms of socialism are anti-human and should be avoided by force if necessary. Mixed economies such as that of the USA are are not feared as much as are freedom and liberty, so we are stuck with them for the foreseeable future until politics and religion become more rational or finally become fully suicidal with fear and goes to a full socialism. Presently, the direction is toward socialism rather than liberty.

definitely moving to socialism, the problem being that socialism has no effective way to manage an economy. To the extent it is controlled , it will fail miserably in terms of production, quality, and pretty much eveything else.

Laissez faire capitalism is nearly impossible in the US society of nosiness of most all into the lives of others and the back of minds idea of fairness and making everyone equal in every way. There is also a general laziness in the use of language such as in meaningless terms like, 'pro choice' and 'pro life' with underlying political meanings and fears.

Have you ever looked into the language e-prime which is (not a word in e-prime) suppose to make one more conscious in thought and communication?

The thing that really gets me about this sort of crap -- If city ordinance / municipal codes were actually enforced, then the problem of homeless bum camps would vanish instantly. The bureaucrats decide what to enforce and what to ignore. It is no coincidence that they choose to ignore the problems that provide further enrichment to the bureaucrats. Each time that I am exposed to an injustice such as the pointless harassments of citizens by the state, I beckon that The Long Hard Winter arrive sooner than later.

If the government didnt benefit from homelessness, they would just make it illegal. This way they encourage people to NOT provide for themselves and just wait for government to provide for them, courtesy of the productive workers in the economy.

I suppose that many of the things that I did in my early teens in the early 1950s would now be illegal. I would set up carnival type games and even have booby prizes which, like real carnival games, were all that could be won. I was the neighborhood banker for the kids, lending a nickel for one cent interest. Didn't have to harm anyone to get repayment. Only thing that didn't go over well with the police was my homemade bazooka which fired CO2 cartridges full of zinc and sulfur propellant. It could be dangerous and would go through a 3/4 inch board. It didn't last for long. A cop didn't even knock and just walked in my home and took it.

Oh, wow, fun memories of high school....where what I did on a regular basis (and never got in trouble for) would get me suspended, permanently, these days.

That brought back a memory from high school chemistry off hour when I cooked up some NI3 and enjoyed the red smoke, but the explosion sent little crystals over the floor. Kind on neat with the tiny explosions when walked on.

Just watch, now the IRS with all it's new agents will be watching her. They'll probably send in a SWAT Team to arrest the little criminal for tax evasion. If she had studied Al Capone (history) in school she might have gotten away with it.

The zero that would shut down a lemonade stand -- not overtly, but covertly -- through application of force wielded by the state -- is simply an envy-intoxicated drunkard.
