I call it hydro-carbon fuel, not fossil fuel. The fossil fuel name is just a hypothesis that is unproven, but has been useful for the state to promote fear of shortages.
Good point. There is evidence that petroleum is generated other than by the breakdown of living organisms. I haven't seen any evidence however that coal isn't basically fossilized plant material.
In Colorado, where this action is taking place, coal and gas related to coal seem to be the main fuels that are present.
I heard the story that one of our Presidents made up the name 'Fossil' fuel as a joke. Way back when. My grandfather was a driller and was one of my uncles and several cousins. They said oil replenishes itself and is not a fossil fuel and we will never run out. We have thousands of years of supply left. i think by the time it runs out they won't be using it at all. Dumb dumber and dumbest.
I know families who go to Colorado annually to replenish their freezers with deer meat to feed their families. This is a bad idea. I'm told deer meet doesn't have cholesterol in it.
I think the hydrocarbons were present during the formation of the Earth. If coal and oil and methane were formed from the dead material of the biosphere, the ratios of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Sulfur, Phosphorous, Calcium and trace metals would match what living organisms have. It doesn't match.
