July 6, 2022: Starting Today All New Vehicles in the EU Will Have Surveillance Black Boxes

"Back in 2019, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) announced that July 6 would mark the day when all car manufacturers would be forced to fit new models with a system that keeps track of technical data.

The data recorded will include “the vehicle’s speed, braking, steering wheel angle, its incline on the road, and whether the vehicle’s various safety systems were in operation, starting with seatbelts.”

Although insurance companies won’t have immediate access to the data, it will be available to law enforcement.

Authorities claim the data will be “anonymized,” meaning the information can’t be used to identify the owner of the vehicle, although only the incredibly naive would plausibly believe that.

Such systems are expected to eventually include speed-limiting technology.

As Reclaim the Net’s Didi Rankovic explains, the most common method of speed limiting technology is Intelligent Speed Assistant (ISA).

“ISA works using GPS data alone, cameras for traffic sign recognition fitted to the front of the car, or a combination of the two. A speed limiter affects the engine power and in that way decreases speed.”

“Like the name suggests, speed limiters are designed to prevent drivers from exceeding certain speed limits, and prompt them via audio, visual, and haptic warnings until they “obey” and slow down.”

For decades, governments have been pushing for all cars to be fitted with black boxes that track location data.

The ultimate dystopian scenario involves giving police the power to utilize similar technology to completely disable the functioning of a vehicle if the driver is deemed to have committed an infraction.

This doesn’t need to be a criminal offense, if the pursuit of social credit score schemes continues to become more invasive, it would eventually be used as a form of punishment for everything from unpaid utility bills to offensive comments posted on social media."

Coming soon to a driveway near you.

Heavy Trucking already deals with this through E-Logs recorded on the vehicle’s ECM. LEOs can just walk up and plug in to get all the data. And issue fines. My buddie’s trucking company keeps overhauling 20 year old trucks specifically to keep away from this technology.

The last year I drove for FedEx Custom Critical, all trucks were required to install the damned things. They were a pain in the behind and offered no leeway for anything at all.

This has been done to airplanes in the USA recently. In 2020, all aircraft that want to fly in any controlled airspace must now have an ADS-B box in them so the location of your airplane is known even when you stick it in your hangar. A $6000 box. I said FU I'll just fly in the boonies no box. $6000 box X 80,000 pilots = a half a billion dollars? Did the ADS-B company have any interaction with the FAA??? Luckily my airport is outside controlled airspace.

Coming soon to the USA. Big Brother wants to learn lots of things about you.
Such as do you go to MAGA Trump rallies.
How often to you visit a gun store to at least buy ammo?
How often do you obviously take a firearm to a target practice range?
How often do you go see a shrink?
Who else do you go see?
Do you still stop at those nasty gas stations?
Or do you "patriotically" make a lot more stops to charge your Tesla?

They already have most of that data from cellphone location pings. So leave the cellphone home, or wrap it in aluminum foil, then go stock up. Better yet, hang your phone on a string and blow a fan on it, makes it look like you're at home doing something!

Although when you wrap it in foil, the data indicates that the phone was purposely blocked from a cell tower. Even when phones are shut down they still ping the cell tower. No pings means the battery is irreversibly dead or the owner is up to something he wants to hide.

Like live unmolested by the government.

Probably designed to kill the car's operation if tampered with, but hackers often find a way.

Someone will make a fortune selling a device to erase the data. Wish I'd thought of that.

          Actually, they will not.
Your cell phone has a chip. Tampering with it is a Felony worth 5yrs and like $50,000 (I think).
PER PHONE. They arrested one guy just for showing others how to do this!

Most of the time, the CRIMINAL state can protect itself like this.

I believe any signs of tampering is loss of license, and and FEDERAL Crime for tampering with FEDERAL Equipment (based ONLY on history, i have not looked it up!)

So a Russian hacker will do it. ;^)
(Might as well, they'll get the blame when it happens regardless.)
Do you know the law that has these penalties? It would appear to be unconstitutional to me.

Not at all. In fact, you CANNOT Make/Sell a cellphone in this country without a license.
Getting the license REQUIRES you build it to govt specs. Which requires this chip.

As a piece of property, remember, you own it. But it is quite illegal to modify a Ham Radio to BROADCAST on police/protected bands.

These laws have been around, and are ALWAYS upheld. In most cases, you cannot challenge them without "standing" (a BS rule), because claiming standing gives them the right to lock you up, LOL.

You can just google "Disable government chip on my phone" to find out more (or something like that).

It's illegal to JAM police radar guns. People do it. I know many of them. The trick they use is they only do it in USED cars, and then claim the previous owner must have installed it. Possession is 9/10ths of the law, though... But this excuse tends to work. You pay a fine, and have it removed.

anti road rage software could also be incorporated, as well as acceleration limiting software

Auto driving cars will replace everything anyway. Driving will be a lost concept. It will be called riding. The more we let machines do our work physical and mental the dumber we get. Smart phone? Dumb user.

actually, we could have autonomous cars NOW if the roads were redesigned to be more like train tracks. Trains could be autonomous right away, eliminiating the engineers who get a lot of money and fall asleep or work on their laptops and crash
