My personal opinion is that will differ greatly from city to city and state to state. Protestors in Portland are already free to do pretty much whatever they want. Contrast that with a city like Boise, Idaho where the populace - and police force - still pretty much respect law and order. If there was a riot like the one in Sri Lanka in Boise, it would be to finally oust the leftist Boise Mayor - and the police would help! (Most hate her.)

A tip from what I learned from being marched into a "tear gas chamber" 3 times while in the Marines.
Should you ever be exposed to a heavy dose of tear gas, do as me dino was told.
Go to something like a tree, a telephone pole or maybe even a parked car and run around it.
You can work the gas out of your system a lot quicker that way.
Running in a straight line all teared up can be hazardous to your health.
