Oh, there are some people who will even deny that. I said it once to a former employer; that "2+2=4 because 2+2 is another name for 4." (This referred to the Law of Identity.) But he said that that was only because people had agreed that "four" would be the sound to represent "2+2". I told him, "You can do that. But you have to be consistent about it. You can't have one sound mean "4" on Tuesday, and have it mean "5" on Thursday," or, as I explained, words would become gibberish, and he would be unable to say anything that meant anything. He was unable to refute that. It is good to have read some of Aristotle's Metaphysica if one wants to defend reason. (Of course, I don't maintain that I quoted all those few sentences word for word, it was maybe about 48 years ago.

I think that maybe medieval Europeans believed in dragons because somebody had found prehistoric dinosaur fossils, and the people thought they had been dragons.
