An appropriate Quora question for the 4th: In the event of new US civil war, which side would you be on?

I didn't personally comment here as there were plenty of others willing to do my talking. Just upvoted a few that were in fundamental accord with my views.

About the guy who said there 500,000 weapons in the US, I was tempted to answer that but I saw someone else had done a fair job so I let it pass.

We are at war and I have chosen which side.
I used to call it the “uncivil war”.
It is simply a war between good and evil.
It is being fought with irregular warfare, that includes information warfare, political warfare.
The fake news is a deep state weapon so are all the controlled puppets in Con gross.

I'm quite sure Ayn Rand would say very much the same thing. However, she found evil outweighed the good, and good outweighed the evil in several notable US presidential contests: FDR vs. Willkie, and LBJ vs Goldwater to name two.

Needless to say, neither of these two favored by her complied exactly with Objectivist ethics, but the alternatives were so horribly repugnant to her that she campaigned for and championed those favorites vigorously,

The point is the "good" in politics isn't always ideal or perfect, but even in an incomplete or contorted shape, it's still preferable to the totally, multidimensionally corrupt. That's why I'll vote Trump in a '24 contest with Biden.

To me it's not the fact that Trump supporters probably own more weapons in the event of a civil war. I simply see Trump as ethically superior to Biden. Maybe that's not saying much, but to me it's still decisive. I'll know Trump is a scoundrel when he joins the league of weapons confiscators--where Biden currently resides as a leading advocate. Until then Trump has my support (and I think Ayn Rand would approve).

I'd prefer not to get mixed up in a war between "idiots" either.

If it came to a war between those who want to federalize/nationalize abortion "rights" (as under Roe--making the unwilling pay for those "rights") and those who want to criminalize abortion in all states without exemption/exception, I'd do my best to sit that particular war out in whatever improvised "Gulch" I could dig up (like jbrenner above).

Unfortunately, I don't think a war between "left" and "right" will be over a single issue. It's likely to be far more conflated than that--and far more difficult to stay removed from.

I think of the 1861-65 US Civil War, and I think one could have escaped it to some degree by leaving friends and family, moving to remote western territories secured under Guadalupe-Hidalgo or the Louisiana Purchase--and take ones chances with the Indians. Trouble is there aren't any more Guadalupe-Hidalgo/Louisiana Purchase territories to move to these days--just plenty of "savages" (both active and potential, depending on circumstances).

At least when it comes to neighbors we can still choose which "savages" they are to be--to a degree.

Me dino gets your point well enough to give you a point.
Considering useless wars we've gotten into~~one causing me to get drafted with me lucking out staying stateside as a supply clerk~~I'd rather not get caught up in a war between homegrown idiots either.
Me the dino picked up "Live free! Die well!" from The Scorpion King because I rather live free than under a tyrannical boot heel.
Someday things may come down to "Give me liberty or give me death."

I will fight for Freedom. And I already know who will fight beside me in my own community.

We hope it never comes to that, but we're prepared if it does.

Maybe I'm just picking nits, but from my perspective, that's a question that cannot be answered without further clarification, some definition of the beliefs of the two or more sides involved.

For example, assume someone asks me "What's your favorite color?". If you're being honest, there is no way to answer without knowing my favorite color of WHAT. My favorite color for a car is what I used to call Candy Apple Red. My favorite color for the exterior of a house would be something more subdued (a pastel, perhaps, but not sure which) with a bold contrasting trim. My favorite color for jeans is blue, but even that has has options; I like lighter blue jeans.

So without knowing exactly what each side is fighting for, how in the world could anyone actually say what side he/she would fight for?

The US economy would have to be on the verge of collapse before people take action or the Dems try to manipulate the elections in November. I'm beginning to believe that the latest Covid virus variants are created by the administration to control the population and the upcoming election.

The deplorables of America keep telling themselves that people with their acts together, the ones who run American and pay the bills, have book learning but are not armed.
"The other side gets easily confused about which gender they are"
"They’re rushing us while waving bongs and dildos. They have no firearms at all.”
    "one side is voluntarily disarmed"
They just keep telling themselves that. They screw up everything else in their lives, but that's other people's fault. If the law break down, and it's replaced with ignoring the law while chanting law-and-order, maybe their pathetic lives will be different.
So they keep telling themselves people who believe in Enlightenment values would never shoot back.

Do you prefer your crickets deep fried or roasted?
Because I see crickets in your future meal plans.
We are fully aware of the Socialist Rifle Association (SRA). Frankly, guns and ammo are the last resort of people who have failed to prepare adequately. I’m sorry for the belligerent tone. But, I’m not putting up with that “Deplorables” bullshit. I look forward with great interest and expectation to see how the “most educated electorate” handles what’s coming down the pipe. Considering how many “educated” millennials have crashed and burned when they were faced with “1st world reality” I can only imagine the grace and poise that they will handle “3rd world reality” with.

The only ones who are armed or dangerous are the police and military. 99% of all civilians are wimps and cowards. No one has to tell anyone that, Evidence abounds. It doesn't matter who is armed.

However ... it is very clear in here in MA who is armed and who isn't. It is not equal to who like/hates abortion, but it is pretty well correlated to who likes freedom.

I'm skeptical of your optimism, but hope you are right. As I posted above, I would hate to see myself involved in a war mainly over "abortion rights."

There is a lot to say for leaving the abortion issue in the hands of state legislatures (as SCOTUS has recently ruled) rather than trying to institutionalize it nationally one way or the other (either re-imposing Roe or totally banning the practice nationwide without exception/exemption).

I'm not very encouraged by SCOTUS working as a religious institution, which is what they have done with RvW. The argument that it is not in the Constitution is hollow. Neither is hair color.

In addition by overturning a precedent for the first time, at least so directly, they just set us all up to have all the Second Amendment rulings they finally had the balls to vote on to be reversed in the future. Congratulations for making SCOTUS as fleeting as the Senate. Gorsuch is the only one I like there. The rest are either minority totalitarians or majority religious nuts, with Roberts the worst of them all.

I'm Christian and I'm completely against a theocracy. We are a nation of 320 million people who possess various beliefs and ideas. Tolerating and respecting those ideas was the foundation of america. That said, a federal law to kill children should never have been passed, particularly when it makes everyone pay to scrape our/vacuum/or murder an unborn child.

The moment unique DNA is constructed, independent from its host (aka mom), rendered RvW murder plain and simple. There are numerous methods of birth control before and after sex not need to snuff out a life due to inconvenience. The history of RvW is shady at best and the end result of it has been to commit the greatest voluntary loss of human life in history. Considering our inability to replenish our population should we really be opting to killing our offspring for personal or financial profit? In 95% (low estimate) of the cases an abortion is not a matter of health matter but convenience.

While I am opposed I do think handing the issue off to the States, placing the matter closer to the local populations and how they view this, and taking law (Obscene in its very nature IMO) away from the fedgov, forcing it on those who want no part of it, is the correct course. Sure many States and people in those states are opposed..says quite a bit about the law, no? Welcome back to a shade of republican governance. But there are still those States where women can still go to do what they feel they must, they simply have to pay for it themselves and travel a bit.

I know that my view is unpopular. But I can't erase someone's DNA from posterity because they are a threat to my liberty? Why should a woman? Men and woman are equal, right? Consequences of actions, right? Yet, I never had anyone, particularly tax dollars, to pay for condoms, and as a guy have we no say in keep/terminate but guys certainly pay the bill for nearly 2 decades on someone else's sole decision?

Unpopular is irrelevant. Using ones (including SCOTUS) religious view that 8 cells is a human to force another person to be compelled to serve 8 cells as a slave is unethical.

This is one area I would support the federal government giving states that make sharia law rules the bird. Make transportation to another state for an abortion part of ACA, and that is the end of that chapter of the Spanish Inquisition.

Unpopular with be supported by the anticipated down votes.
Getting everyone to pay for abortion is immoral and patently unconstitutional. Clearly, as we can see now, most people in may states found the idea of tax dollar paying for this repellent. I'm not sure how that can be construed as religious? Would you allow tax dollar to buy me a car? Get a sex change operation? Pay for my medications? Hardly, but pay to murder the blameless is okay?

Unethical? A unique DNA strand will amount to an individual if allowed to grow to fruition. The unique DNA composed from host and donor is not the mom's body anymore. Logical, rational. While I can't say how long\soon it takes to construct unique DNA I can speculate that birth control before and certainly after sex is pretty effective.

There are choices along the entire path for both people. Judging from our society today, perhaps its high time a bit more responsibility and trepidation with actions is in order from both sides of the encounter.

Abortion isn't outlawed. It is where is should be at the state level where each state will determine based on its people how it will move forward on this issue. Whats so wrong about that?

We’ve no doubt had this argument, several times by now. I don’t really want to repeat it, but didn’t want to let lie the perception that only those religious banning abortion are armed, competent and with the determination to defend rights.

Regardless of CG’s implication, the number of hooded cowards on the left dominate any there with aggressive bias or arms. The religious are fully committed as history demonstrates, Christians, Muslims, Jews, et al. Libertarians and other non-religious 2nd Amendment supporters are not slouches, either.

I hope the FBI has better ways to waste their time than running down people for their Quora posts. All the same, it doesn't hurt to reflect on what a person might post before submitting it to the public. (That goes for anything posted here as well.)
