Just a Quick Question

Hi all— assuming our right to privacy does anyone know how many -reasonably daily readers-there are in our gulch? I was just curious. I’m not as regular as I would like but curious. I don’t tweet, FB, instagram etc etc. The gulch is my social media. I wondered what our “reach” is.
I used to be a GG “producer” and would look in every day. But my shrug job is keeping me very busy for 66. And I’m a little slower……. Thanks.

I am a daily reader but rarely post. I have a feeling there are quite a few of us out there that do the same. I love the comments from most of the regular posters... refreshing!

      ditto jpurr
I am also a daily reader, rarely post, but enjoy the commentary of the regulars. I tend to keep a low profile. I watch social media but never post; I practice and preach objectivism in my business and employee relations whenever and wherever possible.

Another ditto. Daily reader and grateful for the regular commentators! Shrugged 24 years ago. But still work hard to keep my hideaway community in the Adirondacks rational. This forum helps keep me hopeful.

Some years ago the webmaster posted a statement about the "population" in this Gulch being over 20,000.
I did an analysis then regarding activity based on point totals of members at the time.
(This assumes that there is some correlation between activity and points.)
A snap-shot pie chart of the result is:
    http://www.ohsorare.com/gulch-member-...
It showed that 85.45% of all points were garnered by 60 members with more than 1000 points, etc.

Thanks. Very interesting. I wonder about relationship of “active lookers” vs points accumulated. I’ve been in the gulch since 2014 give or take. I would check in everyday, sign all of my emails with “who is John Galt?” and in general proselytize AR, AS etc everyday. I have 214 points…..
FWIW-when I was engaged in my career and would send or respond to 50-100 emails per day my who is John Galt signature received a lot of varied responses. Only a handful from a base of 1300 accounts, vendors, support, customers, had a clue as to what I meant. From there maybe 2 people were knowledgeable and supportive and the remaining 3 or so read AS in college and never embraced the message.
I never waiver in my objectivist values but have been reenergized in the last few weeks watching the DC circus. These characters exceed AS portrayal of the looter/moocher class.

Good for you, Dennis55, on email 'marketing' the message. 👍
I suggested to the web masters that a more 'objectivist' points trading arrangement made sense at the time,
instead of the unlimited (essentially "free stuff") up-votes that other social networking sites employ. It would
have complicated the site though, and I think that was the primary reason the existing system was retained.

I follow that old rule, "If I don't have anything good to add then I don't add anything". Some discussions are interesting while others are not, to me. I can usually rely upon what the Top Point Earners on the right have to say so reading their replies and original posts keeps me well informed.

Tough call here, Dennis55, unless the admin keeps such statistics to quantify attendance. Over time it seems there are moments or days when there are a lot of us and other times, like now, where attendance is a bit scant. Wax and wane, I guess.

We are watching AS happen in real life. I can only hope this community grows and becomes a viable marketplace of producers. So much potential here.

There are so like minded friends out there that are at least partially intellectually consistent that this forum is a real treat.

Interesting question. I sure like communicating with the fellow regulars here. At times I wish it was more "Gulch-like" and hidden...if you know what I mean...

I too do not post on social media. I scan Facebook to see whats trending. I enter the Gulch to find the truth. The actual number cycling through might give a little insight into the number of frustrated and generally pissed off people there are in the western world.
