The writing is on the wall. Can anyone point to an equivalent historical scenario where things did not deteriorate further without a major upheaval? There is only one thing holding back the collapse. It is the status of the U.S. dollar as the international reserve currency. Other nations have already considered adopting another. When this happens, or our creditors realize it is no longer a good risk to loan us money, the party will be over.

I'm no history buff (I wish I was...I'm trying to be but...) Aren't the tipping points (up risings) usually triggered by over taxation... robbing people of their money...which would have the same affect as money becoming worthless. When the fed can no longer spend (pay the moochers) it will happen over night. (All roads lead to this...taxes, or inflation, or not being able to pay our debt). We're being funneled into hell. (Because no one in Washington as the balls to say "NO!" and do what it would take to stop it.)

        Hello LetsShrug,

The events/patterns are recognizable and predictable. The great civilizations have been destroyed from within. When the ambitions and avarice of those in power exceed the resources of a nation, the status quo being unsustainable must give way to something else. When maintaining power becomes more important than the public weal, and the money loses its value due to gov’t excesses, and debt, the nation is approaching collapse, or reformation. Civilizations do not disappear so much as they adopt new forms and leaders. The form of the new government is decided by those who wrest the power.
        Regards,
        O.A.

Good comments here. One major change in our country is demographics and social attitude. We just voted to prove that more people agree with entitlements than hard work. Entitlements are what are killing our country from within. Until people decide on your own to get off the governement dole, we will continue to me a country of moochers and debtors. I dont think people understand how serious our national debt is. I hate to say it as I have two young boys, but I really think civil unrest in going to happen in our lifetime in the US. Then the party will really be over. Thoughts?
