One of the main things holding China back from taking over the world is that they have to steal technology - they don't develop it themselves. It's the case for all socialist nations: they are looters. If China gains cutting-edge techniques for chip manufacturing, you'll have an even bigger problem on your hands than a chip shortage.

I think you're right, as reports are that the Chinese "reporters" in Ukraine (actually military observers) are concerned with the devastating effectiveness of western MANPADS and antitank weapons against Russian forces. Taiwan is much more heavily armed than Ukraine, and the last thing Xi wants is to be humiliated like Putin is being right now.

Not so sure about smallpox. I'm inclined to favor a pneumonic mutation of bubonic plague that's air transmissible. That mutation has occurred once before, but was quickly acted on and stopped. That would be a tempting disease to use, as it has shown up naturally and a lab version would be hard to verify.

You were obviously one of the last to get the vaccination, as there was almost an attitude of indifference developing for quite some time. My wife is over 60 and never got the vaccination.

I asked about it for my daughter, and the doctor said nope, we don't do that any more. I assume that like everything else, that was a changeover period and some got it and some didn't.

Just saw a news article, don’t know if its real or not but Russia has just stopped shipping fertilizer, they produce 2/3 of the word supply. This would equate to starvation when the farmers are unable to produce enough to feed everyone. We better regain control of manufacturing domestically quickly; I would put fertilizer at the top of the list.

The reality is that none of us can control what others do. We only control us. So, what is everyone going to do when the governments of the world start attacking and abusing us.

There is no way for China to "peacefully" take over Taiwan. The people of Taiwan want nothing to do with China and are vigilant. The problem is that unless the US defends Taiwan from the agression China will start in the very near future, they will lose. They simply don't have the resources to reject an invasion, though they can inflict heavy losses. Unfortunately, our current Regime is in bed with China - you can bet they will hem and ha and then just claim its too late to do anything.

Why doesn't China just invade then? They want to capture much of the technological infrastructure intact. They want all those microchip fabs as they are and Taiwan knows this. I've heard rumors that Taiwan has adopted a scorched earth policy on critical technology rather than allow China to get their hands on it. So when something happens, China is going to have to act fast and have inside saboteurs ready to prevent the Taiwanese from destroying those fabs. Easier said than done.
