No, I didn't know that. The word "wife" to me only applies in a legalized marriage. If that doesn't apply, then his justification is severely degraded.

That being said, Chris Rock's poor choice of an attempt at "humor" still stands as a poor choice.

So let’s see who benefits from the slap heard around the world….that would be Chris Rock, Will Smith, Pfizer, the Oscar show that has been suffering from low ratings, and the news programs that can’t get enough of The Slap. A set up? Could be.

My take is, the whole thing was scripted.
I didn’t, nor would I EVER watch the actor back patting show, so I’m relying on “after market” images. But from what I keep viewing, it looks like an act.

Smith would not be the first person I've encountered or heard about who has a big fat ego when he has nothing to be proud about.
The prison me dino used to work at is full of fatheads like that.

you can take the person out of the ghetto, but you cant take the ghetto out of the person. Interesting how the left is resorting to violence slowly but surely.

I don't think Rock would have made the JI Jane joke if he knew the woman had a medical condition.

Or it's the conspiracy idea, that since Pfizer sponsored the Oscars, and are developing a drug for alopecia, that the hubub was staged to create attention and perhaps pre-market product placement.

    They both are to blame.
Smith should have never reacted like that. IF he had a problem with the joke he should have acted like an adult and told Chris that was hurtful. Chris probably would have apologized and not gone there again.
Chris is a comedian, they should always push the envelope, but making fun of someone's illness is always bad. The person has no choice with being inflicted, do you honestly think they want to be sick? It's just bad morals to do that!

My first gut reaction would have been to deck the guy not slap him. But being in front of the live cameras would made me think twice, specially if your living depends on your public image. You have to think before you react, be a thinker not a reactionist. reacting out of emotion always makes you look like a jerk and gets you into trouble, because your not thinking clearly.

I have had situations were I wanted to punch someone immediately, but talked to them later and them apologized. In that case he turned out to be a respectable person and also said the apology in from of everyone else.
A person can never grow unless you allow them to learn from a mistake. They won't ever learn if you got straight to punching. Granted sometimes punching is necessary and that I have done plenty of times, it's like a spanking for adults that refuse to listen.

Politics is downstream of culture. That's why we care. Their behavior is like the depravity of Roman Senators during the decline of Rome. These people are worshipped by millions. They are Liberals. They teach their lack of morality as a moral to millions, especially to the young. Their tinseltown fantasies spread into reality.

Do you know Will Smith's in an open marriage? His "wife" has everyone's thing in her mouth. What the hell is he defending? His paranoia, and the destruction of marriage. He has nothing to stand on.

Who really cares? We're talking about Hollywood, the land of fantasy and fiction, the movies they produce are full of this very kind of behavior, as the actions off screen; the difference this was on live TV so they have to show some sort of outrage! All this produces is more publicity for thlatest film or live performance. Unlike the old days when stars wereheld inviolable, we know everything that goes on in Tinseltown, just leave them alone.

Personally, I don't think Smith should have apologized at all. Someone bad-mouths my wife in public like that I'm certainly not going to sit there. That's not "humor" and it's not "comedy" it's a cheap-shot and bad behavior.

What is hypocritically obvious, however, is that no one bothered to talk about how Chris Rock's comments were "patriarchal" or "an assault on women of color" or anything, however. Nope, when its someone famous they get a pass...

I’m going with Salon’s take. Clearly this is evidence of White Supremacy at the Oscars. Shame.....SHAME.....How DARE you!
    (Yes it’s sarcasm)

Benderasaurus Rex believes this was a publicity stunt. Trying to breathe on the embers of a dying institution.
