If people were using Peer-to-Peer Payment systems (Digital Wallets), this COULD NOT HAPPEN.
This, my friends, is the ARGUMENT FOR Digital Currencies, not against them.
This is an argument against "CENTRAL BANK DIGITAL CURRENCIES" (CBDCs)... Yes, those must be avoided.
Benjamin Franklin (I believe) was the one who suggested we write our own scripts (became checkbooks).
Digital Currency is simply Checkbooks, in which your checks CANNOT BOUNCE. I cannot sign and send you transaction to you that would fail.
Please do NOT confuse what TPTB are trying to SELL you. If you do not have CENTRALIZED CHOKE POINTS, you cannot get choked out.
Everyone should consider at least having a digital wallet with a small amount of cash put into it. Enough, like with Gold and Silver, to learn how it works. To learn how it feels. (I am amazed when I hold GOLD and SILVER coins, how heavy they feel). But I don't know how to shave off $50 worth of Gold from a 1 oz coin.
This is why satoshis exist (Smallest increment of a BTC. It is 10e-8 of a BTC, which is about 10,000 of a PENNY. So it is divisible. And when our USD drops by 10,000 ... A Satoshi will be a penny in Value. LOL.
Anyways, agree that CENTRALIZING power is bad. Turning off peoples ability to buy/pay for things is bad.
And learning ways to work around this stuff is important!
Decentralized is power/freedom. It is a DIGITAL GULCH... And I struggle to find ways to explain it to the Gulch!
That aside they have another major issue, that of reliance on electronics. When "Shit Hits The Fan", those with resources will not be using these systems. We'll "revert" to tangible, physical goods and representations of them as our currency. As any technical society falls, the reliance on "technical" systems false as well. We've seen this even with such things as gold, when usable metals overtake them in value and are used as the exchange, or when salt was a currency.
When the vast, vast majority of transactions have to go through the existing systems, they are severely vulnerable. They are vulnerable because they rely on that system, and those that do not "comply" will be regulated out, rendering them useless.
Consider all the places over the last year that no longer accept cash or checks as the example. A currency only carries value if it can be used as a medium of exchange for value. Without that, it has no value. If a store doesn't accept $CURRENCY, then $CURRENCY has no usable value. You can have a thousand dollars but if the sellers won't take dollars, you've got nothing.
In order to be fully separate you have to have an entire supply chain that accepts that currency; from start to finish, radishes to terminal. Otherwise the vulnerability exists.
But that is NOT the goal of our overlords... They want the Chinese system. It is up to us to prevent that.
We want FREEDOM, and that comes at the price of fighting for it.
Honestly, without electricity, or the network connectivity, life will certainly change. But in all of our recorded history, I don't see that we have EVER stepped back that far.
Mankind has a desire to be connected. It's the "being controlled" we have an issue with.
Yes, they will control the choke points. But once you stop converting your Crypto in/out of USD/CBDC... You no longer need those connections. But it requires technology. Something I think we will have in the future.
The challenge is that EITHER government forces us to comply at gun point, or they will lose control.
They have NO RIGHT to just take our property, or deny us the ability to make a living.
I truly believe that INCOME Tax is UNJUST and a form of slavery!

FWIW, now that Zelle is popular among the kids... The IRS is making them send 10-99s next year to anyone who received more than $600... So that they have to declare it with the IRS and show it is income and pay tax on it... The younger generation is quite upset about this...

I agree that decentralized system with many currencies is a better system, but the access is controlled by the wrong people, imo.
So what will you do when the internet access to the digital currency is blocked, (like the rt.com site was blocked a few days ago) ?
In a decentralized system, I just have to find the IP address of a miner, and hit them.
In a "high trust" environment (where you know the person paying you), you can take an offline payment and apply it later when tools allow you to find an unblocked IP to push it through.
But overall, it's MUCH harder to shut down EVERY BTC miner this way. And when the miners realize they are shut down, they reconnect under new IPs. It becomes a much harder game for the people trying to block access. And once you get something through, these guys can propagate the message.
BTW, it's just like the internet, and email. There are multiple paths, which makes it hard to shut down.
It becomes more like using the dark web... But realize they cannot shut down the dark web. With all their power and control...
But they can make it harder...
ALSO, this is where WEB 3.0 comes into play. Where you and I can be anonymized behind a "number" (Our Public Key Address), which guarantees it is us, and then our access is allowed to a PAID DNS server, that serves up the encrypted details of addresses, in a decentralized way. Imagine trying to take away my DNS address when I have it permanently stored on a BlockChain linking my servers, that I can update in near real time. That is basically here.
But even better, imagine that for PAID subscribers, I can encrypt my server IP, and only they can find it. This is NOT there yet, but will be. Then when THAT IP gets blocked, you know who ratted you out!
We are behind the gun on a lot of this technology. But it is coming. When it is finally here. Everything will be decentralized. I am looking into joining a decentralized VPN System, where my bandwidth is shared with others, to SHARD our traffic. My cost is based on how much MORE bandwidth I consume than I provide (plus a fixed small fee).
Finally, I am forcing myself back to the Linux world, and I am working on de-googling phones, etc. It may take years, but I PROMISE to be a FORCE for good!
I am guilty of over using digital markets. But I also have a lot of money tied up things that have intrinsic value. Intrinsic value is the only way to keep your money safe. It always survives market crashes and devaluations of paper.
I do strongly agree with the article. Sometime we don't realize how much power we put into the hands of other for sake of a convenience in our lives. The Amish may be right in the long run.
