S.S. is thievery on a grand scale or another way of putting it "Robbing Peter to Pay Paul". Maybe someday probably never would be to have an op-out scenario where an individual could have that money being taken out and diverted to an IRA. Also, while I'm thinking about it taxing S.S. went you collect it becomes double taxation in my reasoning. The Feds tax you for working then tax you again when they pay out the S.S.check. Now they are going to give retirees an increase in S.S. but with inflation and additional taxation you will end up with less.

I have no guilt either and I think I've got all mine back and some. The 2022 Social Security payment went up 5.9%, labeled Cost of Living. And the basic Medicare cost went up from $148.50 to $170.10 (14.5%) in 2022, due to increased cost from the plandemic. In most cases this will result in an overall increase in benefit. It did for me, and some. So, I signed up for a Advantage Plan that I really don't need, except it gives me some dental coverage, and a $60 a month kick back to my Social Security payment. It will be $110.10 per month. That would be stupid for me not to sign up for that, even though I get my medical from the VA. It indicates to me that there might be more money in the SS system than our government is letting on.

Agreed. I'd just like to see overhauls on all of it.

Let's convert SS to private retirement accounts. Even if we gave people the money they actually put in it would be a pittance compared to what we're on the hook for. And eliminate the part that many don't know about: the employer contribution.
Eliminate FICA entirely.
Eliminate Federal Medicare as unConstitutional. Let the States take it up and impose taxes if they want.
Eliminate Federal Medicaid as unConstitutional.
And let's talk about torte reform for medical malpractice suits. They and red tape are the two primary contributors to skyrocketing healthcare costs.

There need to be two different words. I am 'entitled' to Social Security and Medicare because I paid for those benefits for 40 years or so. If the government handled those funds poorly, that does not relieve their obligation.

As far as I can see, no one is 'entitled' to welfare or medicaid simply by virtue of their existence.

I did also. 1956, I was 12, sitting with my dad in SS office to get my mandatory card. He told me I would never get the benefit because the government would use the money for other things. "They will never let all that money sit around without dipping their fingers in." I'm getting a check and Medicare and feel lucky every month when it arrives. Now some politicians (Obama) want to call it an entitlement.

I thought that is what we had. The powers of the federal government are defined and limited. They are to protect our rights and to protect our physical being from enemies foreign and domestic. The laws are contractual and criminal. All other powers defer to the states or the people. Everything else the Feds do is illegal.

I agree that it's unconstitutional; however, since I had no ability to avoid the taxation, I'm not feeling the slightest guilt at collecting all I can.

My sister only collected SSI for two years before she died. No one collected my husband's SSI. I made more money than he did in the Army. My parents SSI was never collected. It is unconstitutional!
