I still buy Aunt Jemima's syrup under the new name. I think they did this very valuable lady a disservise. She was admired for her efforts! The destroyers at work.

Me dino NEVER EVER associated Aunt Jemima as a slave who promotes a brand of syrup that uses her name.
Never thought that as a kid growing up in Alabama during the Jim Crow Fifties.
Just looked it up. Aunt Jemima syrup has been around since1889. And that's AFTER they freed the slaves.

I read that the ancestors of Aunt Jemima were very proud to have their relative as the iconic namesake of a beloved product. I suspect a very racist individual might not buy it because of the black woman depicted , that said it shows how non-racist folks are who supported that product for over a century.

In Dothan, Alabama, I knew a few people who were outspokenly that racist. A teenager at a summer job, I gently shook a black truck driver's shoulder to wake him up and I was criticized for TOUCHING him! OOOO!
I recall one racist bragging about an FBI agent harassing him with questions on the phone because he was seen at KKK meetings. True or false? Dunno. LBJ was president at the time.
