The picture on the 'net of 800+ people in the cargo hold of a C-17 says a lot. No seats, no seat belts, where are the facilities for 800+ people? Military planes are built for hauling tanks, Humvee's, helicopters, disassembled airplanes, etc. Seats are mostly along the side made of straps that fold up out of the way of the cargo.

See my note below. The USAF can order airlines IF the airline has contracted to be part of the CRAF. There is a contractual obligation to furnish the service if called upon to do so.

As a contracting officer for the USAF I was familiar with the CRAF (Civil Reserve Air Fleet) program while stationed at Scott AFB in 1986-1988. The program was designed to encourage airlines to make cargo capability available to the USAF in the event the Air force's own cargo planes didn't have enough capacity in emergencies. Airlines that signed up for the program were given passenger business based on the amount of cargo capability they would make available if called upon to do so. Some airlines (Flying tigers for one) had almost exclusively cargo aircraft so it was easy for them to commit to CRAF and in return Flying Tigers leased two 747's to fly US troops and families year around. Other airlines took a bit more coaxing because they would have to convert their passenger planes in order to haul military cargo. In 1988 when last I was involved in the CRAF program, FedEx refused to participate. My point is that airlines did not need incentives to participate for hauling passengers because THAT IS WHAT THEY DID! And the military paid a per seat price that was profitable because it was based on what it cost to fly as opposed to what the market would bear. Unless something has drastically changed since 1988, airlines would be fighting to get the passenger business on the governments terms without a CRAF. Perhaps the CRAF was activated to reward the airlines that did participate in the program?

They are going to bring A LOT of Afghanis into the US under the guise of political asylum. They won't be vetted, and we'll have a real domestic mess on our hands. I hope I'm wrong...

That is why they are landing and taking off from an alternative site...which I think is a totally different country where there is no threat of that happening.

What if one of these airline aircraft gets taken out by a rocket? They won't be up on tactical landings, etc.

chicken georgette probably figures military planes will evoke a negative reaction from well armed resistance. I wonder if anyone considered they'd attack commercial airlines just the same, once they are full of infidels.

The comments in the article ask a pertinent question...Where oh where are all the military planes?
Maybe the pentagon stepped in this way cause biden wouldn't let the air force get the people out?...or did Trump suggest this to the pentagon. Kaylee did say he was working on a way to get people out.
