    Interesting post. Crowdsourcing is no different than many projects taken on in the physical world. For instance, volunteer fire departments. What Rand would think is if it promotes your happiness to be involved, then be involved. If not, then don't.
    Crowdsourcing has a place where it can work well. It is not the end all be all structure for how to move the world forward technologically. Crowdsourcing evangelists have over-hyped its importance, in my opinion. and by the way, Apache software was a knock-off that DID NOT pay (stealing) for the Intellectual property developed by others. Most software of this nature are incremental improvements. Crowdsourcing does not prove communism works.
