Masks and tooth decay ?

The wife, who is one of the avid maskers and Vaxers, just returned from her dentist with a poor report of 4 new cavities, her last checkup was 6 months ago and clear. She avidly brushes her teeth, flosses, does not eat sweets, etc etc. the dentist mentioned that the ph in the mouth was very acidic for some reason and offered no advice.

My thought was the mask and increased CO2 in her respiration’s, Thus making the mouth terrain more acidic and a petri dish for bacteria. A no brainer to me.

This suggestion to her went over like a turd in a punch bowl. So I just shut up, as usual.

My question to gulchers who happen to be dentists or hygienists, “Are you seeing an increase in dental caries recently?

Went to my auto dealer's today for oil change, lube job, and tire check and no one was wearing a mask. Not the customers or the employees.

Yes, I have seen this reported but cannot remember where.
It is not the mask directly but the reaction people have when mask wearing to keep the mouth closed and breathe via the nose only.
So whatever is in the mouth, stagnates.

Makes sense to me. I managed a dental clinic for 18 years and I never put on a mask. I was the Administrator but I sometimes cleaned instruments.
