They do want unity. They don't want diversity because that means people thinking for themselves; working for themselves rather than the elitists. They're 100% committed to eliminating diversity of thought (which is what really matters) because it gets in the way of their laziness and greed.

When people who value liberty call for unity, it means that we respect people thinking for themselves and offering up their differing methods for getting a particular task done. Liberty involves take all that input, deciding on which way to go through reasoned debate, and everyone respecting that decision. Progressives want the end but don't want to have to face opposing viewpoints or argue the merits of their cause because it exposes their agenda - enslavement of the masses.

Building a society does take work. Improving a society is what we're after, however. Socialism is all about building a society of serfs and lords, but just like feudalism before it it doesn't generate progress. It took the Enlightenment for people to begin to throw off the chains of the self-proclaimed lords. Unfortunately, those people are long gone and our society has largely lost the principles upon which we were made free. People have gotten fat and lazy and don't even realize their good fortune. Instead, they think that a good life is owed them even if it means they have to do nothing to earn it. No sense of personal pride or accomplishment. No effort. Just looting from those who do.

They want a reset. They are going to get it. Problem with a reset is that you need to go through zero before you can "build back better". The tearing down of a culture is easy. Building a culture takes a LOT of work and thought. Unlikely Biden can muster that.
