Sounds like more people who don't know the actual meaning of words.

Too many allow the left to re-define meaning - no question. They started 100 years ago with the term "liberal" when they found out that people didn't really go for "progressivism" because it was inherently a contradiction in terms. But they've put on the full court press in the past 60 years or so, redefining everything from race and marital relations to sex and gender. Society will only become solvent again when we can agree on the meaning of basic concepts.

Generally they refuse to define the words they use. Step one is to get reporters to demand word users actually define the terms they use. For example, I keep encouraging of a reporter I know who talks to Dick____Durbin regularly to ask him what "Fair Share" means.

That's because they want the right to redefine the word to excuse their own double-standards and hypocrisy. Because they seriously do view themselves as superior to the rest of humanity. They can't stand the notion in the Declaration of Independence which states that all men are equal before the law. Because their notions of society hearken back the feudalism and the class-based system of lords and serfs rather than a meritocracy based on hard work and personal achievement. They are diametrically opposed systems with diametrically opposed fundamental beliefs which can not be reconciled in any way. Make no mistake that this is a war of exclusive ideas and only one may win.

During our writers' group meeting, one sweet young college student asked me why I used so many different words to say things in my work. I explained that each word has a specific meaning, a shade of meaning, so I write exactly what I want to convey. She couldn't understand--neither the words nor the concept. Time to re-read Anthem.

I think one "beneficial" aspect of the pandemic and the resulting school closures is that parents are now more cognizant of the crap being introduced to their children through the public school indoctrination system. They're also learning just exactly how much actual learning goes on in classrooms and just how much is babysitting. For example, my first grader spends about 30 minutes in a virtual school environment before getting a few assignments he completes in about another 30 minutes before returning to playing games on his school-issued tablet or the home PC. A total of an hour's worth of actual work by the teach in a given day and yet I'm supposed to be supporting their salaries as if they were still in school full time?!!?

Cognizant or not, you'd be surprised how many parents are only too willing to hand their kids back to the state as soon as possible, so they won't have to do as much educating/parenting as they've been doing in the past year.

Many - especially women - are dependent on the child care aspect of public schools. Not a rag on women just a fact. I work with twelve accountants and only one is male. Several of these women have school-aged children and who have to work from home until their kids go back to school full-time.

There are also a lot of very lazy parents out there.
One of my hubby's former high school classmates wound up a teacher at the same high school they attended.
He said that he's more of a parent/babysitter than a teacher. A lot of these kids aren't getting what they need at home.

Child psychologists and sociologists have long noted the correlation between parental participation and involvement in academics and performance. The other thing of particular note is the hurdles children in one-parent homes face with distinctly higher rates of teen pregnancy, dropout, incarceration, etc.

I can remember discussing with a prof. form Oxford, how the number of word choices in the daily languageof Americans was decreasin. They used teh same few word over and over. I also remember the first time I read "Look Homeward Angel" by Thomas Wolfe, how each word seemed chosen, and no other would have quite fit that sentence. It was like a painting in words. I found most students today either do not know him, or hate what I found so amazing. I find most TV shows repeatedly use gerunds incorrectly, which makes me cringe. The misuse and over use by media of "existential" infuriates me. How can they possibly undertand science or any concept when they do not understand words!.

To me this sounds like the most 'racist' statement I ever heard? And, you don't have a mother and father, you have 'adults' in your home. I give up!!!

Wait a minute...sex choice lessons in the 5th grade? Wowie, if my teachers in high school had mentioned the word 'sex' the roof would have popped off and my momma would have been leading the charge!

Part of the problem is those leading the charge in academia have lost the ability to tell the difference between men and women - unless it becomes convenient to make men, mainly white men, feel ashamed of being born as such. There's a lot of cognitive dissonance going round and round and round - circle back on that, often.
