Here is a comment I received today from one of "those" people. Thought I'd share with the class his statement, and my response. The whole article is at the URL link.

"LOL, I am so glad our President disagrees with you and understand reality.

I work in a fortune 100 company. We are forced to recruit people from outside the US and relocate them to Seattle to fill 6 figure salary jobs because we can’t find the talent in our own country.

You blame public schools, I blame the lack of funding for those schools. You may complain about being forced to pay for these schools, but in the end, the pittance that you pay is repaid many times over by those students if they get a good education and contribute back to society. Including with the taxes that they pay.

Ayn Rand should be no ones role model nor anyone’s hero. She was just a self-centered bitch.

Peter

So glad you wrote. I bet your Fortune 100 company receives help from the Federal government, because if people like you are running it, I’m sure it’s going bankrupt.

Rich

He is confusing the interconnectedness of all people as proof of necessary value added to each other's lives. This error is common, especially in a secondhanded society when other people's approval is the ultimate goal. However, even among rational people, educated people don't always add value to the lives of each other.

There's a really god one on the way. You can also rent canoes or kayaks there. The Housatonic River runs along that stretch. Gorgeous!!

Yes, and I want to go borrow a fast car or two from a friend of ours! Lime Rock race track is about 45 minutes from here. Not far mileage wise, just all twisty two lane roads to get there. :-)

Like so many teenagers who sleep till 3 PM, nobody wants to wake up. They live with their doors closed and the shades pulled down.

I don't believe him that his fortune 100 is recruitting outside the US for 6 figures, unless they're getting a special break.
the assumption he makes is that we exist for HIS society. we spend more money on education than any other country in the world. it is not a LACK of funding. it's 1st and foremost the same lib ideology that has turned education into a vehicle for propagandizing another generation to believe what this person believes rather than actually learning. the first thing any dictatorship does is take over the schools
