The Collectivist Nature of Social Media Platforms and Big Tech

In the old days, if you asked somebody who was really successful in life for advice, they would often tell you to turn off the TV and read more books.

Today we live in a world of even more extreme information asymmetry and we're submerged in narratives that promote collectivist impulses.

The equivalent advice today would be to stop working for Big Tech and start working on yourself.

        Not since the sixties. Had a great discussion with a friend in my generation. We agreed that the past two generations have no clue how to critically think for themselves. They have no clue about history or governments. Karl Marx - wasn't he one pf the Marx brothers?

          Sad. Come to think of it, the last course I took in history was world history at a junior college in the middle of the Sixties. History has always been a favorite subject. I subscribe to a magazine called Military History. Loved the History Channel until it got kinda crappy about a decade or so ago.
          One Watter's question I'll never forget is the intoned question that was a college student's answer. It went like this--
          Watters: "Who did we fight during World War Two?"
          Student: "China?"

            Yep. I took a modern history course in high school that started with the French Revolution and ended i the Russian. I will never forget the teacher - Randy Peacock. I took the course because I had to and loved it so much I graduated with a major in history. Mr Peacock would be banned from public education today.
