Words have no meaning any longer

This is perhaps one of the most dangerous things I've ever seen. Meaning underlies everything we do and to pretend that meaning is malleable and especially subject to the "preference" (pun intended) of a certain political ideology is nothing short of fascism and complete tyranny.

    To take this one step farther, the media's advertising and propaganda have molded the sexual PREFERENCES of people for a century.
    To conclude that the individual is pre-ordained to enjoy one preference over another is complete foolishness.
    The media, moron psychologists, and socialist educators have created this to divide people.
    The senator from the Peoples Republic of Hawaii is a damned idiot.

    Yup, what I find offensive is the 'Alice' definition of words-
    It means what I say it means, until I change it.
    Pure post-modernism.

    Confucius said something about that, I may post it if I find it.

        Not unrelated- The replies of Judge ACB to senate questions, neither flowery nor compact but good English expression in response to hostile, and maybe sneering and insulting, questions.

        If language is not correct,
        then what is said is not what is meant;
        if what is said is not what is meant,
        then what must be done remains undone;
        if this remains undone,
        morals and art will deteriorate;
        if justice goes astray,
        the people will stand about in helpless confusion.
        Hence there must be no arbitrariness in what is said.
        This matters above everything
        .

    I think these people think they are the 'thought police'.

      They object to any thought but their own - regardless the fact their own thoughts disagree with reality. The cognitive dissonance resonates strongly with these people. It's a surprise the conflicting vibrations don't have a Klingon disruptor effect.

      Or maybe they do. I haven't seen too many of these people with any remaining brains... ;)

    The fact that this practice of changing definitions is becoming so common makes me a little worried. Changing the meanings of words is one reason why I'm against any kind of restriction on free speech--you don't know how far the restrictions will go in the future, so we shouldn't even start creating any. Ironically enough, those who say they're fighting for freedom (the extreme left) would argue that we'll be free once we've gotten rid of undesirable speech, but their actions are the thing that's taking away freedom (not the undesirable speech). Like you say, we know who the real fascists and tyrannical people are.
