Science for Madmen

"One of the absurdities of the coronavirus era is the purported faith in science by the political class; in particular, the left. Joe Biden, for instance, said he would shut the country down if recommended by scientists. Nancy Pelosi, this week, with respect to coronavirus stimulus, told Wolf Blitzer, that “…the science should call the shot and when they do, we should all trust it.”
“Trust, but verify,” counseled Ronald Reagan. No doubt, the Gipper, didn’t envision the ridiculous science behind coronavirus containment policy.
President Trump, taking the advice of Reagan, recently verified the effects of coronavirus himself. His findings, following a three day bout with the illness, revealed the science based policies that have been applied are not to be trusted. Trump tweeted these conclusions:
“One thing that’s for certain: Don’t let it dominate you. Don’t be afraid of it. You’re going to beat it.”
...
This brings us to the crux of the matter. Lockdowns have little to do with stemming the spread of coronavirus. They are about greater government control by madmen. The purported science behind the lockdowns is science for madmen.
Don’t trust it. Don’t trust the politicians. They destroyed the economy to rule your life. Alas, they’ve only just begun."

Trump is clearly not ideal, but he is the only option that isn't a disaster.
Such moral superiority spewing forth in the past. Where are all you "champions", "heroes" and value-signalers now?
Silent, perhaps where you should have been all along.
Just this morning as I ate my eggs I remembered the 7-Nations Study that altered the American diet in a huge way. Years later they found out that around half the data had been omitted (data that didn't meet the agenda) and it was actually something like a 15-Nations Study...that was inconclusive. That's a hell of a story if you can find it...
For several years I have been calling this the New Dark Age.
The Einstein story, when told one-hundred scientists signed a letter saying he was wrong, he replied-
Why one hundred? One would have been sufficient.
(I think the story is substantially correct).
The point is, majority voting is not science.
There is a blogger whom I much admire but who makes one mistake.
She advocates, 'Data driven policy'.
Unfortunately, that will always lead to policy driven data.
Those on here have the work of Rand behind us. Values matter.
Data and facts must be taken on board, but need to be interpreted.
“In the same fashion,” Eisenhower continued, “the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity.”
“Scientific research and discovery” should be held in “respect” Eisenhower said. Yet he foresaw, “The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.”

In his book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science, Tom Bethell writes, “Government funding has… promoted the idea that a theory can be regarded as true if it enjoys enough support.” Bethell adds,
"Consensus discourages dissent, however. It is the enemy of science, just as it is the triumph of politics. A theory accepted by 99 percent of scientists may be wrong.
Committees at the National Institutes of Health that decide which projects shall be funded are inevitably run by scientists who are at peace with the dominant theory."
It would be naïve to think Dr. Fauci is eager to fund approaches to COVID-19 other than his preferred vaccine solution.
