Yes. It was probably one of the two published papers from the head of the Wuhan Institute of Virology I saw. One was on combining the RNA payload from two different viruses to create a hybrid. The other was on changing the S protein which directly affects which hosts the virus can attack. Both of which have obvious application and relevance to COVID-19.
