What the judge meant was that intelligence and ability tests discriminate against applicants lacking intelligence and ability.

I eagerly await a court ruling that bulk is not to be used in selecting footballers, and for basketball height measurements are discriminatory against the vertically challenged community who are obviously under-represented in those sports.

They are setting the stage for "college for all" which means eventually dropping all admission standards and also graduation standards.

Whats the purpose of testing except to provide some sort of certification for employers and to make the school pick the smartest so as to enhance the value of their diploma.

Employers could test people to determine how smart and educated potential employees are before they get hired. Put the onus on the students to learn what they will need to actually get a job they might want..

Get rid of "teachers" and emphasize the environment that will encourage students to learn . The students themselves will make the reputation of the school once they graduate.

This is not a complete solution, but I just have a feeling at this point that the way we have structured education is really inefficient.

First, control the public grade schools and high schools. Dumb them down with propaganda and revisionist history. Then fill the colleges with only socialist professors and remedial coursework to be followed by more propaganda and revisionist history. Finally, get rid of the straggling bits of real education that have escaped the government fiat and rabid gaggles of unionized re-educators.

The Tyranny of Testing by Banesh Hoffmann, ‎Crowell-Collier Press, 1962, was recommended in The Objectivist Newsletter shortly after it was published. While objective tests are an important tool in predicting success in college, they are not the only tool. More to the point, the standardized tests have long been criticized for their inadequacies. No alternatives have evolved.

Whatever else they do measure, the ACT and SAT do not measure intellgence, nor were they designed to or intended do. They measure how well you paid attention in high school.

I can speak only for the medical field as I am in a related discipline. I tell students that every day is similar to taking the state board exams to get a license. Every patient is a test question that comes into my office. At first it is scramble mode to get the right answer. After seeing the same question over the years the answers come quickly. Then, of course, something changes and the old answers are incorrect. But that is what brings you back into the office every day. Its the curve balls that keeps things interesting. If you can't take tests then don't go into a field that requires anything cerebral.

There is a contention that such tests only identify talented test takers, who may lack the self discipline to succeed in a center of higher learning. My late wife was more intelligent than I am (my opinion), but was dyslexic, which makes taking any written test in an allotted time difficult. When she was a child, back before the condition was understood, she was considered "dumb," and set back a grade.

My wife was an extremely talented artist in multiple media, managed corporate accounting systems (she had no degree), acted as a general contractor in remodeling four different homes, and designed houses herself, but she most likely would have gotten atrocious SAT scores. She wanted to be a geologist, but realized she couldn't cope with tests that would be given in college. Her brother is a PhD and retired member of the JPL staff, but I still believe she was the smarter of the two.

"Idiotacracy" continues its march and attack on our American culture. All part of the plan to destroy any value or principals which our great country is built upon.
This judge is obviously ignorant as to what happens when the left gets what it wants.
They eliminate those who made it possible for the takeover of a country.
History, folks, is being made and repeated with the help of stupid people like this judge.

Reasonable IF the colleges are going to go the extra thousand mies and bring these underachievers up to a level of competence. Otherwise it looks like it'll make the admissions job that much harder, there aren't a bunch of extra student positions waiting to be filled. Whatever happened to holding people back in grade school, jr high, and high school until the student met a minimum level of competence?
