The COVID-19 pandemic goes along with increased mortality from acute respiratory disease, and measures to limit the spread of the infection go along with increased risk of vitamin D deficiency, especially among high risk groups. It has been suggested that vitamin D3 supplementation might help to reduce respiratory disease mortality.

Conclusion. Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency are common and account for a large proportion of respiratory disease mortality in older adults, supporting suggestions that vitamin D3 supplementation might make a major contribution to limit the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among women.

I have been telling my patients over 11 yo and their families to take at least 3000 iu /day. I do screenings on adolescents with elevated bmi for obesity labs and include vit d-25-OH. In 10 years of doing this I have only found 1 normal level.

I’m high risk group, cancer survivor and chronic colds. A few years ago my doctor told me after my blood panel that I was low vitamin D. Since I have been taking it regularly, I hardly get colds anymore and last March when I got Covid, I was only in bed for 3 days and I fully recovered. I’m a very firm believer in high dose vitamin D3.

Of course. Even when my dad came into the hospitals with COVID one of the first things administered - VitD. I have to laugh because I've taken it religiously for over a decade and am illness-free the past 15 years...all the while the mainstream media was literally imploring people not to take it.

As a senior, for four months I shopped, planted trees in the yard, went about life. We take Vit. D and get sun as well. I was healthy all along. Only when the mask mandate by dopey DeWine came about, did I have two asthma reactions while masked! Follow the Swedes, not China! It makes sense that blacks have a higher rate of infection, as they are less likely to take vitamins and wear hoodies, blocking sun! It also follows that those with BMI over 30, often are not healthy exercisers o and often do not like to work outside. Those in the lower income groups often have no money for vitamins, and no yards for exposure to sun. Maybe this should be studied. Not systemic racism at all!

10,000 units a day unless you are getting sufficient sunshine...this summer was really hot so sun exposure was kept at a minimum; I tapered off to 5,000 units a day. Now that the weather has been nicer, I have been going to the beach when I can...no more Lilly white for me. I am a man of color now!...laughing.

Off subject. Happened to be at my town beach in Westbrook Ct the day Steve Bannon got arrested off shore in my view...what are the chances?
Beautiful Yacht too, caught everyone's attention.

In todays world, we are eating too many PUFAs, (Inflammatory), and too much Mutilated Wheat, as well as too high of insulin from a carb/sugar heavy diet (leading to inflammation, T2D, Obesity, etc).

So, our vitamin D is Chronically LOW to deal with this inflammation. I am a Case Study (Anecdote) where as my diet changed, my Vitamin D came up! THEN I eventually add supplementation...

Thanks! I have it ready-to-play...and will do so shortly.

I have a link here in the same vein that might be of interest. It's an article written by a personal-but-not-close friend, Chris Masterjohn, Ph.D., who studies and writes extensively about nutrition, and especially now, its relationship to COVID. The title of this article is Five New Vitamin D and COVID-19 Studies. Although he does sell some items, his articles are all free to read.

Years agp my Endocrinologist put me on 2,000 units a day. Since I live on the Gulf Coast of Texas that seems to be the correct dosage for me. I am outside a lot. My yard is an entire city block! Nearly fell off the John Deere yesterday. Nice recovery.
